THOMAS E. HOINACKI
Thomas E. Hoinacki, 64, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 25, 2005 at his home. Tom was born July 9, 1941 in Lemont, Illinois the son of Edward V. Hoinacki and Laverene Welter Hoinacki. On December 20, 1980, in Leavenworth, Kansas he married Elaine M. Biggins. She survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Heather Roberts, sons: Kenneth, Richard and Gary East all of Leavenworth, Kansas. His sister, Sandy Buchanan, Chicago, IL. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Laverene Zeimetz and his son, William Todd East who died January 30, 1989. Tom was a sales person for both Montgomery Wards and West Lake Hardware. He served in the United States Army. And was a member of the American Legion, Ozawkie, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday, December 28 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1:30pm Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

KENNETH RAY COPELAND
Kenneth Ray Copeland, 71, Leavenworth, KS passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Kenneth was born April 8, 1934 in Forsyth, MO the son of Fredrick Copeland and Isabel Madron Copeland. He is survived by his son, Michale A. Copeland, Leavenworth, KS, his daughter, Tammy Rodgers, Tennessee, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Fred Copeland.Kenneth was an Electrical Designer for an engineering firm. He served in the United States Army in 10th special forces in Korea. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Monday, December 26, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, December 27. 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Rev. David Bray will officiate. Burial will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.

EDGARDO APONTE
Edgardo Aponte was born March 20, 1927 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was the son of Julio Caesar Aponte and Cruz Rigual. His young life was spent in Mayaguez and in an orphanage in Cayey. He was adopted by Marie Teresa Liciago Guilbot but kept his birth name. Mr. Aponte apprenticed as a printer while in the orphanage and was recruited by the Department of Defense to work at Fort Leavenworth. He arrived in the United States on Labor Day 1946. He worked at the Army Field Printing Plant for 32 1/2 years. Mr. Aponte was fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese and printed in those languages. He received a Sustained Superior Performance Commendation from the Department of the Army in 1968 for his outstanding work ethic. He married Ursula Steinwachs on May 5, 1956 in Kansas City, MO at St. Francis Xavier Church. After retirement Mr. Aponte did extensive volunteer work for the Catholic Church and the Leavenworth Community. His volunteer work included visiting nursing homes, taking communion to the homebound, visiting the sick in the hospitals and being mentor for many young people. He received the Man of the Year Award from St. Joseph's Church in 1982 and 2002. Mr. Aponte volunteered for 27 years and was also a 3rd Order Carmelite. Mr. Aponte is survived by his wife Ursula, three children and six grandchildren. Michael Aponte and his sons, Travis and Tyler. maria Teresa Ketchersid and her children, Benjamin and Carmen of Iowa Park, TX. Gisela Davis and her children, Natalie and Jacob of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by his mother in Puerto Rico. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, KS. There will be a Rosary held at 6pm Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. David McEvoy officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 306 N Broadway, Leavenworth, KS 66048.

SALLY EGLI OLANDER
Sally Egli Olander, 94, went to be with her God on December 19, 2005. She was born the youngest daughter of Ernest and Marie Gerber Egli on April 20, 1911 in Bern, Kansas. She was raised by her aunt Emma Grossenbacher and cousins Sam and Minna Schmid. Sally graduated from Bern High School in 1929 and from Streckler's Business College in Topeka in 1933. During the 1950's, she worked for the American Red Cross in both Leavenworth and Fort Leavenworth chapters. She was a long time, active member of the First United Methodist Church of Leavenworth. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a member of both the Esther's Circle and the J.O.Y. class at church. Sally's faith and participation in religious events and activities was the foundation of her life. Sally was extremely creative and her talents were limitless in the arts and crafts. She often could be found knitting, crocheting or painting and blessed her family often with the gifts she had made with love. She enjoyed entertaining and celebrated all holidays with festiveness and her own special touch. Being an excellent cook, she often graced her guests with her culinary creations. She enjoyed and played bridge for a number of years and shared her fondness for card games with her family over the years. Sally was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren, her parents, two brothers and six sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Celeta (William) Hopkins; three grandchildren: Debbie Flaspohler, Mark Hopkins and Lisa Hopkins and five great-grandchildren: Ashley Hopkins and Jennifer, Allie, Stephen and Brandon Flaspohler. Visitation will be from 12pm - 1:00pm Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church. Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Donations in memory of Sally may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the American Red Cross or the donor's choice.

CAROL LEE KOHL
Carol Lee Kohl, 63, of Leavenworth, KS, formerly of Canon City and Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away at Menorah Hospital in Overland Park Kansas of December 18, 2005 following a long illness. A memorial service will take place at 10:00am Friday, December 23 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Visitation will follow the service at the chapel. Carol was born April 27, 1942 in Greeley, Colorado and was the daughter of Floyd and Esther Brown. Following the untimely death of her mother, Carol was raised at the Oddfellows Home in Canon City, Colorado. She was a 1960 graduate of Canon City High School in Canon City, Colorado. Following graduation, Carol lived and worked in Canon City until the mid 1980's when she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she worked as an airline reservationist and mortgage specialist for Wells Fargo Bank. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother Floyd Brown Jr., sister Ariadne (Deanie) Gazewood and the father of her children, Ernest J. Kohl, son of Mary Traub of Canon City. She is survived by her three children, Randy Kohl and his wife Diane of Leavenworth, Kansas; Debbie MacGilvray and her husband Jerry of Denver, Colorado; and David Kohl of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Traci, Nathan, Julie and Andrew Kohl of Leavenworth, Kansas and Ryan and Aaron MacGilvray of Denver, Colorado. In addition she is survived by her nephews Mark and Mike Gazewood of Denver, Colorado. Carol belonged to the United Methodist Church of Canon City, the Evangelical Free Church of Colorado Springs and the Rock of Ages Church in Leavenworth, Kansas and also attended the Protestant Women of the Chapel at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Carol was loved by everyone and will be missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Rock of Ages Chapel, 1017 Randolf Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048 or a favorite charity.

THOMAS W. BOONE
Thomas W. Boone, 79, Leavenworth, KS passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. He was born September 8, 1926 in Tientsin, China the son of Joseph Winfield Boone and Ruby Burgoyne May Boone. On November 27, 1953 he married Dr. Phyllis Ogg. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1966. Tom was a longtime attorney in Leavenworth, practicing for over 40 years. Tom graduated from Salt Lake City High School, attended the University of Utah and received his law degree from the University of Kansas Law School. He served as PCT. Committeeman for the Republican Party in Leavenworth County. He was a member of the Kansas Bar Association, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Elks Lodge. Tom is survived by his brother, Daniel Boone of Utah. Close friends, Walter and Martha Dietsch, Connie Miller, Patty Amacher Wallace and Linda Amacher Peck. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday December 16, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10am Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Funeral Chapel. The Very Rev. Michael Munroe will officiate. Burial will be held in the Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.

BEATRICE (BEA) FRANCES CALLISON BINDER
Beatrice (Bea) Frances Callison Binder passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Colonial Manor in Lansing Kansas. She was born August 24, 1915 in Benton, Arkansas the daughter of Lula Maude Harris and John Cleveland Callison. As a young woman she moved to Leavenworth where she met and married Leo Binder, November 28, 1940 and spent her life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. When her children were grown she worked at Dee's Floral as a designer and volunteered at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Geraldine Lorraine Callison Jordan and Betty Aileen Callison Huffer and brothers: Roy Cleve, John Cleveland, Jr., and Ernest Britton. She is survived by her sister, Mary Louise Callison Keene and brother-in-law, Howard of Montgomery, Alabama; daughter, Barbara Binder Dawson, and son-in-law, Thomas of Lansing, Kansas; son, Walt Binder and daughter-in-law, Nina of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren; Susan Dawson McGowan of Lansing, Thomas Michael and wife, Tasha of Lansing, Ellen Binder, Daniel Binder, and Patrick Binder all of Kansas City and ANdrew Binder of New Britain, Connecticut. She is survived as well by six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Leah and Dawson McGowan, Amber Dawson and Isabella and Sidney Binder. Visitation will be held from 10-11am Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel with funeral service following at 11am at the funeral chapel. Chaplain Jack Divine will officiate. Private graveside service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity House in care of the Davis Funeral Chapel.

GLADYS D (HAPPY) KAMPBELL
Gladys D. (Happy) Kampbell, Leavenworth, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Gladys was born May 30, 1918, in Jonesville, LA, the daughter of William DeLong and Fanny Mae Gay DeLong. Gladys married Albert E. Kampbell Jr in April 1937 in Arkansas. They raised their daughters in Little Rock. He preceded her in death in 1971. Gladys is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Tillotson of Leavenworth and Susan Garner and husband John of Urbana, Ill; four grandchildren, Cathy Tillotson of Olathe, Charles Tillotson and wife Melissa of Leavenworth, Patrick Garner and wife Diana of Macomb, Ill and Maria Garner of Urbana; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Clayton Tillotson of Leavenworth. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Little Rock. While living in Leavenworth, she attended the First United Methodist Church. She also was an active member in the Duplicate Bridge Club in Leavenworth. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday, December 13 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 10:30am Wednesday, December 14 at the First United Methodist Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets. Dr. Tim Hutabarat will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Leavenworth Public Library or First United Methodist Church of Leavenworth.

DONALD C. "DON" JEWELL
Donald C. "Don" Jewell, 75, Leavenworth, KS passed away Friday, December 9, 2005 at his home. Don was born November 15, 1930 in Bonesteel, S.D. the son of Charles P. Jewell and Helen Margaret Berg Jewell. The family moved to Fremont, NE in 1938 where he went through school before serving a four year tour in the United States Army. In 1953 he became a civilian employee of the Army at Ft. Riley, KS where he married his wife of 46 years, Jan Hammel. They moved to Mead, NE then to Fort Leavenworth, KS, before serving a three year tour in Japan as a logistics inspector. In 1972 he returned to Ft. Leavenworth as Chief of Purchasing and Contracting. While in this position he was responsible for all Government contract actions for President's Truman and Johnson funerals. Retiring in 1985 to spend more time with his family, playing golf and cards with his friends at the little bar. Don is survived by his wife Jan Jewell of the home; Sons, Brad G Jewell, Lee B Jewell and wife Margie, Jeffrey S Jewell and Jay C Jewell and wife Michelle; his mother Helen M Brown and step father, Ralph Brown; Sister, Gwen Rasmussen; Brother, Robert Jewell; Two Grandsons, Seven Granddaughters, Three Great Grandsons and One Great Granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles P Jewell and his son Chip E Jewell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm Monday, December 12, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, KS. Memorial service will be held 10:30am Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Dr. Randall A. Terrill of the First Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.

FRANKLIN A FULK
Franklin Anton Fulk passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 3rd with his family surrounding him. His death was the result of complications caused by kidney failure. Frank was born on February 3, 1934 the youngest child of Laura Marie Poss and Benjamin Richard Fulk, Sr. and was a 5th generation Beverly resident. Frank graduated from Platte County RIII High School in 1953 and was a start athlete for the Pirates setting many records in Basketball and Football. Frank met Lela Rosetta Barnett (Rosie) in 1955 while working at Hallmark Cards in Leavenworth, Kansas. They were married on April 2, 1957 and have lived at their current residence since 1961. Frank was a lifelong farmer, planting his first crop with a team of horses at the age of 8. He owned various businesses including Dunn's Outlet in Beverly for 36 years. He and his wife also owned the Mode O'Day and the Model, two clothing store in Leavenworth. As any customer left his establishments, his phrase was "much obliges." Frank had a brilliant mind and was quick with a joke. He always had a smile on his face and had a way of making folks feel at ease. There was no such thing as a stranger to him and he loved "genuine" people with good intentions. He was a good man and was very dedicated and supportive to all his family members. He lived a full, rich life and accomplished every goal that he set out for himself. He will be missed terribly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Rosie of the home; daughter Laurann and husband Dave Taylor of Boise, Idaho and their children Aidan, Ukiah, Austie and Alaynie; son Robert Barnett and wife Chasity of St. Joseph and their children Morgan and Alexandria; son Mark Fulk; brother Bill Fulk of Platte City and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Hester Timm, brother Ben R Fulk, Jr. and sister Betty Dennis. The family would like to thank the wonderful care of Gambro Dialysis Center, North Kansas City Hospital, New Mark Care Center, Karen Bartlett of Barr Private Care and the amazing staff of Regional Care Hospice. A service celebrating Frank's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Platte City, Missouri on Saturday, December 10th at 3pm. All who knew him are welcome to attend. In lien of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Frank's memory to Missouri Girls Town Foundation, PO Box 59, Kingdom City, MO 65262. Davis Funeral Chapel will be handling the cremation.

CLIFTON LEO LOWE, SR.
Clifton Leo Lowe, Sr., Lansing, passed away December 2, 2005 at Colonial Manor. He was 89. Clifton was born December 2, 1916 in Jarbalo, Kansas the son of David and Lola Trackwell Lowe. On April 4, 1939 in Platte City, MO he married Helen M. Hall. She survives at the home. Clifton farmed in the Jarbalo area until moving to Leavenworth in 1941. After moving to Leavenworth he drove a bus for the Leavenworth Transportation Co. He was a fireman at Fort Leavenworth. In 1945 he was called to active duty to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a sergeant First Class and served 18 months in Manila in the Philippines. He retired from Fort Leavenworth June 30, 1973. He refereed City League Basketball and umpired City League Soft Ball for the city of Leavenworth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Other survivors include his son Clifton Leo Lowe, JR., Kansas City, Kansas; 2 daughters Linda Wrinkler, McLouth and Ann Skaggs, Faucett, MO; 7 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren; 5 Step Grandchildren and 14 Step Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Roy Lowe. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Fall Creek Cemetery. Bishop Ted Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday, December 5, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Salvation Army.

HELEN NADINE DICKSON
Helen Nadine Dickson, 86, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Colonial Manor in Lansing. She was born the daughter of James and Mae Clinkenbeard Murray on Oct. 8, 1919, in Easton. She moved to Leavenworth as a child and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1936. Helen eloped with her high school sweetheart, Edwin “Buzz” Dickson, on July 14, 1938. They were married for 66 years. Buzz passed away on March 25, 2005. For many years, Helen worked in the Montgomery Ward catalog department and then at Dorothy’s, a ladies clothing store. She was a member of the Cushing Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the hospital gift shop. She was a member of EO, a chapter of PEO. Helen enjoyed taking care of her home and family, and dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by daughter Cindy; her son-in-law Bill Geiger; grandson Todd Geiger and his wife Susan of Tonganoxie; two granddaughters, Paige Geiger of Kansas City, Mo., and Julie Geiger of Overland Park; and two great-grandchildren, Mitch and Macy Geiger. She is also survived by two nieces, Ruth Fevurly Jones of Denver, Colo., and Janet Fevurly Weld of Overland Park; and one nephew, James R. Fevurly of Lawrence. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Nellie Fevurly and Lavera Martin, and an infant brother. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at First Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Walnut. The Rev. Ronald Van Schenkhof will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Davis Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be given to Leavenworth Hospice or the American Cancer Association.

WILLIAM C CAMPBELL
William C. Campbell, 82, Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Colonial Manor, Lansing. He was born May 1, 1923, in Richmond, Mo., the son of Clea Campbell and Dolliver Smith Campbell. On Oct. 18, 1944 in Leavenworth, he married Margaret S. Johnson. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1990. He worked in the Map and Chart Section for Civil Service at Fort Leavenworth for 36 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Hildebrandt; sons, William Campbell Jr., and Ronald Campbell; sisters, Faye Campbell and Emma McHenry; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Funeral services will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery.

RICHARD LEE BEDERMAN
Richard Lee Bederman, Platte City, Missouri passed away Friday, November 18, 2005. Richard was born in Kansas City, MO on February 5, 1954, the son of John Dean and Beverly Carol (Gippner) Bederman. On August 14, 1995 he married Barbara K. Baker (formerly of Chanute, KS). She survives at the home. He is also survived by his brother, John R. Bederman of Blue Springs, MO. He was a computer programmer for Platte Technology Group. Visitation was held Wednesday, November 23, 2005 with graveside service at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 am December 3, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Luke's Hospice.

GERALD E LOGAN
Gerald E. Logan, 73, Leavenworth, KS passed away Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, KS. He was born March 24, 1932 in Leavenworth, the son of Clyde F. Logan and Dora Flint Logan. On December 30, 1960 he married Wauneta A. Moberg. She survives him. He is also survived by his son, Brent Logan and wife Mary. 3 Step Daughters: Anita Hadley, Mesa, AZ; Rita Keane, Hiawatha, KS; and Cheryl Clark and husband James, Hiawatha, KS. 6 Step Grandchildren, 17 Step Great Grandchildren 2 Brothers, Robert Logan and wife Betty, Leavenworth, KS; Donald Logan, Leavenworth, KS. 2 Sisters: Darlene Parr, Leavenworth, KS; Carol Mull, Melbourne, FL. ROSALIE MOPPIN
Rosalie Moppin, 70, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away November 15, 2005. Rosie was born February 14, 1935 to John and Ella Jordan. She is survived by her husband Marshall Moppin of the home; her sons Chris Moppin and wife Kim of Platte City and Randy Moppin of Leavenworth; her daughter Candy Moppin of Leavenworth; a sister, Evelyn McCain; a brother, John Jordan; grandchildren Taylor "Rose" and Ashley Moppin, Kevin, Jason, Nick and Amber Moppin, and Lindsay Nuss; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents John and Ella Jordan; her sister Florence Moppin and her brother Alfred Jordan. ROBERT JAMES AARON JR
Robert James Aaron Jr., was a "Prince of a Man." He left this earth on November 14, 2005 to join his wife Rose Catherine. Bob was a good man who always tried to do what was right and lived to enjoy life. He was a member of the USA Air force and served during World War II. He was a manager of GNB in Leavenworth, Kansas for over 37 years. Bob was proud of his family. He was a caring father of four children, Rita Aholt of Lee's Summit, Robert Aaron Jr. of Tennessee, Katie Yoakam of Leavenworth, and Billie Wolfson of Overland Park. Bob enjoyed times spent with his 10 grandchildren, Regina Cooley, Katie Prideaux, James Aholt, Ashley Meyer, Robert Aaron III, Angela Aaron, Joshua Yoakam, Aaron Yoakam, Molly Wolfson and Joanna Wolfson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Zyza Cooley. Bob lived each day to the fullest. His stories and smiling eyes will be missed forever. May the road rise to meet you, may the wind always be at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face. ROBERT EARL HAGER JR.
Robert Earl Hagar Jr., 60, Leavenworth County, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Robert was born on August 11, 1945 in Leavenworth, the son of Robert Earl Hagar Sr and Katherine Cecilia Brown Hagar. He graduated from Immaculata High School. He entered the U.S. Army on September 20, 1965 and while in the service he married Alice F. Dykes on November 27, 1965, in Leavenworth. She survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Angie Light (Tim); son, Robert Earl Hagar III (Tabitha); his sister, JoAnn Naylor (Ron); his grandchildren, Madison, Amber and Christopher; and nieces and nephews. Robert was a steel worker, worked for Simon-Johnson in Leavenworth, and then for the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, where he retired in 2001. He was a former member of Happy Hollow Lake, loved fishing and sports, but most of all he loved his family. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, KS. JOHN CLINTON TILLOTSON
John C. Tillotson, Leavenworth, died Friday night, November 4, at his home. He had been ill with cancer for almost three years. His wife, Carolyn and children Cathy and Charles and Charles wife, Melissa, were with him when he died. John is also survived by his mother, Maxine Tillotson of Topeka and his sister, Carolyn and her husband, Norman Smith of Middleburg, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Cole Allen and Clayton Andrew Tillotson. John was a lawyer in Leavenworth, practicing there for 40 years. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas and Washburn University Law School. John was born in Norton, Kansas on August 13, 1940 to John Charles and Maxine Tillotson. His father and grandfather, Hubert Tillotson, were also lawyers, as was his great aunt, Ida Tillotson, who was one of the first women to be admitted to the bar in Kansas. John was preceded in death by his father and his aunt, Margarette Tillotson. GEORGIA M. McNALLY
Georgia M. McNally, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona where she had lived since 2003. She was born on April 26, 1916, in Leavenworth, the daughter of George H. and Florence Nichols. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leavenworth. Mrs. McNally was a civil service employee specializing in accounts maintenance for the Chaplain's Office at Fort Leavenworth, a member of the American Baptist Women's Ministries and a volunteer for Leavenworth Hospice. It was her wish that any memorials be given to her beloved First Baptist Church of Leavenworth. Her husband, Henry McNally, preceded her in death as well as her sisters, Evelyn Edwards and Jane Diehl. She is survived by her brother, Luke William Nichols of Joplin, MO; sons, Thomas McNally of Santa Ana, CA and Robert McNally and daughter-in-law, Beth McNally of Tempe, AZ; and grandsons, Adam McNally of Placentia, CA and Andrew McNally of Costa Mesa, CA. She had one great-granddaughter, Addison McNally of Placenta, CA whom she dearly loved. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Thursday, November 3, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, 340 N 13th Street., Leavenworth, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 1:30pm Friday, November 4 at the church. FAYE SMITH ASBURY
Faye Smith Asbury, 83, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 at Country Care in Easton, Kansas. Faye was born July 9, 1922 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Iva Pearl Sparks and Earnest Smith Asbury. On June 11, 1950 he married Robena Isabel Berg, she survives him. He is also survived by his daughter Denise E. Kern of Liberty, Missouri and sons Joseph E Asbury of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Mark E Asbury of Leavenworth, Kansas. And seven grandchildren: Daniel & Joshua Asbury; James, Robert and Jason Kern; and Rachel and Nicole Asbury. He was preceded in death by his parents. Faye was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Faye served in the United States Army, while in service he received the Purple Heart and other meritorious awards. He was a member of the D.A.V. American Legion, V.F.W., member and past president of the Wyandotte County Sports Association. RUTH ELLEN FUQUA
Ruth Ellen Fuqua, Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at St. Luke's Northland Hospital. She was 80. Ruth was born May 6, 1925 in Larned, Kansas one of three daughters of Lee and Hazel Mitchell Boley. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church and a Nurses Aid for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center for 20 years. Survivors include daughter Linda Fuqua, Leavenworth and son Michael Fuqua, Lawrence; sister Virginia Smith, California; three great-grandchildren Shawna Wells and Anthony and Emily Cates. She was preceded in death by her son, Harry I. Fuqua Jr. and sister Renie Young. Visitation will be Monday, October 31, 2005 from 6-8pm at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10am Tuesday November 1, 2005 at the First Christian Church. Rev. Jerry Muncy and Chaplain Jack Divine will officiate. FRANCIS ALVIN (MACK) McCANN
Mack was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 27, 1928 and passed away at Menorah South Medical Center on October 23, 2005. He left home at the age of fifteen to join the Merchant Marines. At age 18, Mack joined the Army. He spent 27 years serving his country, was highly decorated and awarded the Bronze Star during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1973 as a Regular Army Chief Warrant Officer, Grade 3. In 1977, Mack along with his wife, Donna and their three sons formed McCann Plumbing and Heating - where Mack still worked every day. Leavenworth has been home to the McCann family off and on since 1959 when he was first assigned to Fort Leavenworth. Mack was a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 56 (Past All American Commander), Fraternal Order of Eagles Post55, and The American Legion Post 23. He and his wife were the Grand Marshals for the 2002 St. Patrick's Day Parade. Mack was an avid sports fan and loved to travel with his wife, Donna. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Leigh McCann; his three sons and their wives: Francis L (Mick) McCann, Michael D (Mike) and Helen McCann and Daniel S (Dan) McCann; his brother and wife John Patrick and Judy McCann of Omaha, Nebraska; his seven grandchildren, Francis (Mickey), Kristen, Michaela, Molly, Madeline, Daniel (Danny), and Aidan McCann; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Francis L and Frances (Rezac) McCann; his brothers: Melvin Jack (Jackie), Rolland (Bub) and Billy McCann; and sister, Dorothy Mae Laudermith. Memorial funds are requested through The American Heart Association and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held 5-9pm Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. INEZ LOUISE ALBRIGHT
Inez Louise Albright, 79, Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 22. Inez was born October 1, 1926 in Grant County, Wisconsin the daughter of Ida and Louis Reese. She married William Lynn Albright on December 26, 1945. They were married for 48 years. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son William "Bill" Albright Jr. and her infant child. Survivors include her daughters: Cyndi (Rich) Flanders, Grayslake, IL; Susie (Mark) Treiber, Grayslake IL; Debra (Glenn) Bonin, Tulsa, OK. Sons: David (Andrea) Albright, Tulsa, OK and Steve (Marsha) Albright of Leavenworth. Other survivors are a daughter-in-law Masako Albright, Woodbridge, VA; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The Albrights retired in Houston and she worked for the Channelview Chamber of Commerce with her husband. She was a member of the Ralston Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX. She was a devoted military wife, loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. Carl Raymond Ford, 62, Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Leavenworth, Kansas. Carl was born June 15, 1943 in Chicago, IL the son of Carl Wilson Ford and Leola Margaret Kendall Ford. Carl served in the United States Army, serving his country in Vietnam from 1967-69. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by his two sons, Jeff Dean Ford and Chad Michael Ford; Daughter, Heather Lea Ford; Sister, Barbara Jean Eichenberger and 11 Grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marlene Bertha Windle. Graveside service will be held 9:00am Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth Kansas. Bishop Ted Thomas will officiate. No visitation is planned.

WILLIAM "BILL" LLOYD FORD
William “Bill” Lloyd Ford, 49, Uniontown, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Mercy Health System of Kansas. William was born May 3, 1956, in Fredonia, the son of Carl Howard Ford and Wilma Faye Hall Ford. He married Lorraine A. Kern, she survives at the home. He is also survived by his first wife, Linda Ford; daughters Krista Ford, Stacey Thomas and Danielle Kern of Leavenworth; sons Michael Ford of Leavenworth and Mark Hixson Jr. of the home; mother Wilma Faye Ford of Baldwin City; brothers Robert Ford and Rocky Ford, both of Clinton, Mo.; sister Sue Ann Frey of Stillwell; grandson Maddux Lemke of Leavenworth; and mother- and father-in-law Mary C. and Junior. Kern of Leavenworth. He was preceded in death by his father, Carol Howard Ford who passed in 1994. He graduated from Olathe North in 1974. William served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974-1981. He worked for the city of Neodesha Police Department from 1981-1984. He then came to work for the city of Leavenworth Police Department in 1984 until medical retirement in December 1994 due to a heart attack. He then worked as an automotive technician at Jim’s Accutune in Leavenworth from 1995 to 2001. He also worked as a marine technician with Midwest Marine and worked in maintenance for an apartment complex. William was recently employed by Heidrick True Value in Fort Scott. He enjoyed his family, auto racing, motor-powered racing of any sort or competition, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, home improvement and just getting away to relax and see the country. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Jack E. Freeman, 80, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005. He was born September 14, 1925 in Carthage, Missouri the son of Vancil Freeman and Agnes Goforth Freeman. In 1954 he married Elizabeth A Trum, she preceded him in death. Jack is survived by his daughter, Mary Freeman of Prairie Village, Kansas and his son John Freeman of Prairie Village, Kansas; Sisters, Shirley Yates of LaGrange, Georgia and Doris Hadley of Ft. Meyers, Florida. Jack worked in Civil Service as a firefighter until he retired. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. MALCOLM F. BERG
Malcolm F. Berg, Leavenworth, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005. Malcolm was born March 31, 1920, in Leavenworth, the son of Earl M. and Hazel M. Jost Berg. He served in the United States Navy.He was a nurses aid at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center and a barber. He was a member of the Masons and a Shriner. On January 14, 1954 he married Jeanette Lindsay. She preceded him in death in 1995. On February 14, 1997 he married Waunetha R. Youngblood. She survives at the home. Other survivors include 3 sons: Frederick L. Berg (Leavenworth), Allen E. Berg (Kelso, Washington) and Dennis C. Berg (Olathe, Kansas); 2 step daughters: June R. Williamson (Potter, Kansas) and Grace A. Long (Omaha, Nebraska); 2 brothers: Alvin and Harold Berg; 14 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Elmer and Earl Berg and 1 sister: Hazel Elmen. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. On July 20, 1944 she married Albert C. Luse, he preceded her in death on November 20, 2002. Mary was a member of the Easton United Methodist Church, Easton, Kansas. She is survived by her sons: Richard Eugene Luse and Charles Derrell Luse; her sister: Jo Ann Jones; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Matthew Gabriel Balke, 28, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away September 30, 2005 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was born December 17, 1976 in Elmhurst, IL the son of Frank John Balke and Shirley Dusanic Balke. He married Eboney Daniels, she survives him at the home. He is also survived by his four children, William Henshaw, Malcom, Brandon, Christian Balke; his parents, Shirley and Fred Osborne; Brothers, Frank Balke and Jeffrey Winters; Sister, Jennifer Wheeler. ELSIE FRANCES HILL VESTAL
Elsie Frances Hill Vestal, 98, Leavenworth, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park. She was born on Dec. 1, 1906, in Liberty, Mo., the daughter of Hiram P. and Cordia Lee Salyers Huntsman. Elsie married Charles T. Hill on March 17, 1923. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1946. She then married Ralph Vestal on Aug. 6, 1957. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Rosa Lee Simonis and Ruth Marie O'Rourke; and her sons, Gerald Ray Hill, Charles R. Hill, James H. Hill and Earl Jack Hill. Elsie is survived by her daughters, Cora Lee Bergman, St. Joseph, Mo., and Betty Jean Linaweaver, Leavenworth; her sons, Alva F. Hill, Florida, and Joseph M. Hill, Leavenworth; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Elsie worked at the Veterans Administration Center for 27 years in food service, retiring in 1973. She was baptized at the Hoover Christian Church, Hoover, Mo. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Jerry Muncy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery.

MARY ZEOLA SEBER
Mary Zeola Seber, Leavenworth, passed away peacefully September 27, 2005 at her home. Mary was born November 7, 1926, the daughter of Merwin L. and Mary E. Wells Davisson. She married Cletus H. Seber in 1946. They celebrated their fifty-ninth anniversary March 1st. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest daughter Linda Keithley. Mary was a long time member of the WIBC. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Survivors include her husband Clet; Brother, Clifford Davisson of King George, Virginia; Daughters: Kathryn M. Seber of Leavenworth, Patricia Seber-Bradley (Dennis) of Bonner Springs, Lee Ann Seber of Monterey, California and Shari L. Owens (Ralph) of Robertsdale, Alabama; a Son: Robert C. Seber of Leavenworth. Mary is also survived by her granddaughter, Nicole E. Seber of Leavenworth and a grandson, Tony C. Keithley of Leavenworth. She has one great granddaughter and two great grandsons. A memorial service will be at the Davis Funeral Chapel Friday evening at 7:00 pm with visitation starting at 6:00 pm. The body is being cremated. Memorial contributions may be given in Mary's name to the American Diabetes and/or Kidney Foundation.

Bernard Daniel Quinian, Leavenworth, passed away September 23, 2005 at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth. Bernard was born March 5, 1926 the son of Michael B. and Helen Banks Quinian in Dawson, NE. He married Daisy Leah Mercer in 1948. They divorced in 1970. Bernard later married Geraldine Breiner who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister: Esther Feldkamp of Centrailia, Kansas and an infant son. He served in the United States Army. He was in the occupation forced in Japan following WWII. He worked in retail sales. He was a member of the V.F.W., Eagles, and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include daughters: Rita Kucmierz, Mesquite, Texas; Joyce Smith, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Marsha Danzeisen, Florida. Sons: Richard, Lansing; Dennis, Mesquite, Texas; and Thomas, Atchison. Brother, Wilfred Quinian, Seneca, Kansas; Sisters: Marguerite Strathman, Seneca; and Anna Mae Ice, Centrailia, Kansas and 9 Grandchildren. Thelma E. Morrow, 74, Winchester, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, Winchester, Kansas. She was born December 19, 1930 in Oklahoma the daughter of Charles Rex and Nellie Richards Rex. She married Donald N. Morrow, he preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter. Thelma is survived by daughter Judith Evelyn Klempnauer and husband Henry, Winchester, Kansas; Sons, Richard J. Morrow and wife Ana, Leavenworth, Kansas and Thomas D. Morrow and wife Trish, Wichita, Kansas; Two sisters; Eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 Step Daughter, Dawn Trujillo of Denver, Colorado. ANNA MAE WASH
Anna Mae Wash, 82, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Anna was born June 9, 1923 in Leavenworth the daughter of William Richards and Bessie Hubbard Richards. On May 22, 1965 Anna married Eugene Wash. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1988. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alberta Shellman; five brothers, Earl, James, Henry, Charles and Wiley Richards. Anna is survived by one son, Eugene Richards, of Leavenworth; two step sons, Robert Wash and Eugene Wash of California and several Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 am Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Elder Leland Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

JAMES S HOBBS
James S. (Jim) Hobbs, 84, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at his home. Mr. Hobbs was born April 16, 1921 in Leavenworth, the son of Lee and Henrietta (Holdorf) Hobbs. He graduated from Leavenworth High in 1939. During WWII he was employed by Missouri Valley Shipyards and later by Leavel Motor Company until his retirement. Mr. Hobbs enjoyed playing cards, and in years past, bowling, golf and dancing. On October 22, 1949, he married Bonnie Reu at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth. She survives of the home. Mr. Hobbs was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an active member over 60 years of the Masonic bodies having been a Past Master of Leavenworth Lodge #2 AF&AM, and a current member of King Solomon Lodge #10 AF&AM; Past Excellent High Priest, Leavenworth Chapter #2 Royal Arch Masons; Past Illustrious Master, Royal and Select Masters Council #1; Leavenworth Commander Knights Templar #1. As a member of Abdallah Shrine, he served as captain of the Foot Patrol, a member of the Leavenworth County Shrine Club, and a member of the Shrine Park Board. He was a 60-year member of Byington Chapter 177 OES; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No 55; a member of the Lansing Historical Society; the Henry Leavenworth Antique Auto Club; and a Model A Ford Club of America. Other than his wife, he is survived by four children, Carol Morris, James Stanley, Jr., and Amy Zschoche, all of Leavenworth, and Ruth Warzala of Maryland; a sister, Ann Konopisos of Cheyenne, WY; a brother, Robert L. Hobbs of Avila Beach, CA; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dixie Smith. Friends may call after 2pm Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. James Buddy (Bud) Garvey, Sr, loving father and grandfather passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at his home in Leavenworth, Kansas. Bud was born on October 13, 1936 in Leavenworth and raised by his grandmother, Angie Binz. In 1964 Bud married Pearl E. Thompson, his wife of forty years. He worked for the City of Leavenworth until his retirement in 1996. Bud is survived by his wife, Pearl, of the home; Son and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Garvey; Grandchildren, Roy Allen Simpson and Elizabeth Irene Romane of the home, Sarra Nicole and Gregory James of Lansing, Kansas, Linda Hermann, Lansing; Jessica Simpson, Cheyenne Simpson both of Leavenworth; Sister, Rosemary Glenn, Leavenworth and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmother and in 1998 by his loving daughter, Mary Garvey. LETHA MARIE "PAT" PARSONS
Letha Marie "Pat" Parsons, 92, Leavenworth, KS passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005 at her home. Pat was born January 1, 1913 in Potter, KS the daughter of Fred A. Heim and Marie Louise Timpe Heim. On January 9, 1935 Pat maried James L. Parsons, he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Harry and Ralph Heim, and one great grandchild. Pat is survived by her daughters, DeBorah K. Allen (Jerry) of Georgia and Judith D. Schmidling (Dennis) of the home. Her son, James W. Parsons (Marilyn) Leavenworth Kansas. Nine Grandchildren, seventeen Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild. Pat worked at the Sky Lark Drive-In for 20 years, she was a teacher's aid for the Leavenworth Public School system. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Retired Teachers Association. HARLAN EUGENE NIEMAN
Harlan Eugene Nieman, 76, Easton, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Country Care Nursing Home in Easton. Harlan was born on May 29, 1929, in Lowemont, Kan., the son of Martin Henry Nieman and Bertha Margaret Heidrich Nieman. On June 29, 1957, he married Delores Cropper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Bertha Nieman; and two brothers-in-law, Don Ready and Norman Lobitz. He is survived by two sons, David Nieman and Marland Nieman; two sisters, Ruth Ready and Dorothy Lobitz; grandchild, Ashland Nieman; and many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Easton High School. Harlan was retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 2. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, and while in the Army he was stationed at the LADD Air Force Base in Alaska. Then the Army Reserves for eight years. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Sara R. Lovell, 95, Leavenworth, formerly of Birmingham, Ala., passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth. Sara was born on April 7, 1910, in Heflin, Ala., the daughter of Charles M. Coggin and Cora Coggin. Survivors include her son, John Reichley and wife, Judy of Leavenworth; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Johns-Ridouts Chapel in Birmingham, Ala., for funeral services with burial following in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

ALICE EUGENIA PIERCE
Alice Eugenia Pierce, 85, Leavenworth, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at her home. She was born on Nov. 11, 1919, in Syracuse, N.Y. She majored in language arts and education and graduated in 1942 from Syracuse University. She attained a master's of arts in education in 1947, also at Syracuse University. In addition, she completed candidacy in the Dean of Women program at Syracuse. Mrs. Pierce taught school at the secondary level in Syracuse and at the primary level at Catholic schools and in the Head Start program in Tucson, Ariz. She was also a homemaker and a military wife, relocating to various Air Force bases in the United States and overseas. Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, U.S. Air Force retired Maj. Mathew S. Pierce. She is survived by five children, daughters, Donnielle Kuehne of Germantown, Tenn., Marilynn Myers of Lexington, Ky., Dianne Karis and Sharon Pierce of Leavenworth; and son, Mark Pierce of Page, Ariz. She also leaves eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Hazel Dell Joyce, 74, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Specialty Hospital of Mid-America. Hazel was born October 9, 1930 in Easton, Kansas the daughter of August Manthe and Daisie Allen Manthe. On November 12, 1946 she married James M. Joyce, Sr., he preceded her in death on July 12, 1995. She was also preceded in death by three children: Edna S. Joyce, Eugene L. Joyce and Joseph H. Joyce, four brothers: Charles, Robert, Marvin and Raymond Manthe and four sisters: Ida, Manthe, Ruth Manthe Baker, Esther Manthe Thompson and Diane Manthe. She is survived by:
Three daughters: Helen M. Richardson and husband Carlton of Leavenworth, Kansas; Corine H. Scott and husband Dudley of Illinois; and Vivian Ann Phan and husband Dung of Nebraska. Five sons: James M. Joyce, Jr. Leavenworth, Kansas; William L. Joyce, Leavenworth, Kansas; Albert H. and Jerry L. Joyce of Nebraska; David R. Joyce and Patrick S. Joyce both of Missouri. 25 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; 3 brothers: Joseph Manthe of Leavenworth, Kansas; Donald Manthe of Atchison; and Ivan Manthe of Texas; 1 sister: Barbara Manthe Lawson of Leavenworth, Kansas. Hazel was an LPN, working for the Pine Street Nursing Home and the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, Kansas. She also worked for the Hotel Cody. URSULA SUE NUNN POLK
Ursula Sue Nunn Polk, 52, of Lansing, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on December 20, 1952 at Fort Hood, Texas, the daughter of Howard and Ilse Kalmering Nunn. As a child she lived in Germany and Turkey. Ursula was salutatorian of Jacksonville, AR High School graduating Class of 1970. On June 5, 1974 she married 2LT Freddy Lee Polk in West Point, NY. In 1975, she graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas, where she majored in Political Science. In 1976, Ursula received her commission as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. The Polks were stationed in Germany, where Ursula gave birth to their daughter, Jessica Marie, August 22, 1980. She received her Master's Degree in Public Administration from American University, Washington, DC in 1983. She graduated with distinction and was admitted to the National Honor Society for Public Administration. Ursula and her husband were stationed at West Point, NY where both served as Assistant Professors. She was one of the first women to teach at the United States Military Academy where their son, John Edward Ronald, was born May 19, 1985. The Polk's were stationed in Panama and participated in Operation Just Cause of 1989. Ursula participated in both the planning and the execution of the operation and became one of the first post-Vietnam female soldiers to earn a combat patch. In 1990, Ursula attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and served as an instructor in strategy at the college the following year. Her final rank was Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. She was an active member and advocate of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, Leavenworth, Kansas. A tireless promoter of education, she served as President of the Parent Teacher League and was a member of the school board as well as other committees in the church. Ursula received her teaching certification from Avila University and taught Government, Economics, and International Relations at Immaculata High School in Leavenworth. She was also on the Board of Directors of Iron Tree Research, Inc. She is survived by her husband, Fred, and son, John, both in Lansing, Kansas; and daughter, Jessica in Topeka, Kansas. Her mother resides in Jacksonville, AR and her surviving sisters are Sandra Owens, Covington, GA and Angel Hope, Harrison, AR. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, Kansas on Thursday, June 30 beginning at 10am. Burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery (behind the VA) at 11 am. CLARENCE E. KETTERMAN
Clarence E. Ketterman, 82, Oskaloosa, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Hickory Point Nursing Home in Oskaloosa. Clarence was born on Sept. 20, 1922, in Kismet, Kan., the son of Adrian E. Ketterman and Nora Wiley Ketterman. On Jan. 22, 1950, he married Bertha C. Henshaw. Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an independent truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Bertha C. Ketterman; three grandchildren, Gina A. Kirby, Timothy A. Schmidling and Leo R. Schmidling; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Wilbur Ketterman of Duncanville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda A. Schmidling, in 1997. John Joseph (Buddy) Baskas, 83, Leavenworth, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2005.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1921, in Leavenworth, the son of John (Sheeny Burke) Baskas and Margaret Pike Baskas. On March 23, 1941, he married Mary Margaret Crook. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2004. John is survived by two daughters, Angela Marie Baskas Hacker, and Kathy L. Baskas-Goldak and husband, Mike, all of Leavenworth; one son, John J. "Skip" Baskas and wife, Sharon, Leavenworth; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis "Frank" Baskas, Patrick William Baskas, Robert Edward Baskas, Ralph "Porky" Baskas, Michael Charles Baskas and James Anthony Baskas; and sister, Mary Katherine "MK" Baskas. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Ann Baskas; two brothers, Leo Daniel "Blackie" Baskas and Thomas E. Baskas; and his sisters, Anna (Eileen Becker) Schulte, Lillian (Lily Mae Becker) Hattock and Johanna Marie Baskas. He served in the U.S. Navy. John worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 35 years. He then went to work for the city of Leavenworth as a plumbing inspector. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 55. WAYNE HOWARD HEIN
Wayne Howard Hein, 82, of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born January 6, 1923 in Fairbank, Iowa, the son of Herman A. Hein and Olga M. Strempke. On March 17, 1946 he married Helen Lucille Crosmer in Miles City, Montana; she survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Connie L. Denney (John, Jr) of Leavenworth and Rebecca S. Nolan (Richard) of Piedmont, California. Other survivors include three brothers, Kenneth, Jack and Russell and one sister, Mary Werdel; five grandchildren, Carol Jones, Mark Denney, Martha Denney (Brackney), Brian Jones and Matthew Denney and five great-grandchildren: Justin Denney, Nicholas and Ryan Brackney, Caleb Denney and Faith Brackney. Wayne served in the United States Navy during W.W. II. Wayne retired from the Ford dealership in Waterloo, Iowa after working as parts manager for 38 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Men's Club. Alberta E. Shellman, 88, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away June 10, 2005 at Country Care in Easton, Kansas. She was born September 10, 1916 in Leavenworth, Kansas the daughter of William Richards and Bessie Hubbard Richards. On September 18, 1938 she married William Albert Shellman. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1999. Alberta is survived by 2 daughters: Loraine Lambkins of Goodyear, Arizona and Jeanette Byers of Leavenworth, Kansas; One son: William (Bill) Shellman, III of Kokomo, Indiana; His brother, Wiley Richards, Pasadena, California and Sister, Anna Wash, Leavenworth, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Earl, James, Henry, Charles and Wiley Richards. Alberta was a life long member of the Pentecostal church and a devoted wife and mother. THEODORE H. "TED" CONRAD
Theodore H. "Ted" Conrad, 89, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Ted was born January 31, 1916 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Carl Theodore Conrad and Hanna Wilhamina Vossmer Conrad. On June 21, 1941 in Leavenworth, he married Florence I. Atwell, they were married 63 years. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2004. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Lee Means, his parents and three brothers.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Alice Louise Conrad of Leavenworth, Kansas and Dorothy A. "Dot" Quebedeaux of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 son, Ted Conrad, Jr of Leavenworth, Kansas; 1 sister, Etta L. Breiner; 3 grandchildren: Shannon Wilcox, Wendy Anderson, and Cathy Cox.; 2 great grandchildren.
Ted worked for the Hercules Powder Plant, the Leavenworth Foundry and then for the Leavenworth Waterworks Department until he retired. He was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Leavenworth. He loved his family and grandchildren, gardening, cooking and his work with the Pilgrim Church. GLADYS MAE TRACKWELL CODY KESINGER
The Lord wrapped his arms around Gladys Mae Trackwell Cody Kesinger on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. The daughter of Mace and Gladys Kesinger Trackwell and little sis of Ben Trackwell. Mae was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on January 18, 1927 and grew up here. She attended Leavenworth schools, graduating in 1945. Mae retired from the Leavenworth Post Office and started her worldwide traveling. She eventually started nature trips: Leatherback Turtles in St. Croix, VA; Black Howler Monkeys in Belize, CA; Fresh water Dolphin in Peru, South America; and Albatross on Midway Island. Mae was awarded the "Volunteer of the Year" by the American Red Cross, Soil Conservation and Council on Aging. She was a Charter member and past Honor Queen Bethel 28 Jobs Daughter. Her proudest accomplishments are her four children: Kay (Stanley) Brewer, Jay (Kathy) Cody, Ray Cody and Gay (Albert) Paul. Five grandchildren and Six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and one grandson. Also preceding her in death are her grandparents, the late Walter and Nora Kesinger and the late Ben and Cora Trackwell, all were local residents. SIMUELL O'NEILL (ROBERT) TAYLOR
Simuell O'neill (Robert Taylor) died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on May 24, 2005. Simuell, called Robert from youth, was born May 19, 1929, the first child born of his parents: Ephraim R. Taylor and Beatrice (Horton) Taylor, both of whom preceded him in death. Robert was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Taylor and Leon Taylor, both of Oakland, CA. Two sisters: Mable (Taylor) Westfield and Mary Louise Collins of Leavenworth, KS. Robert moved with his parents to Leavenworth as a child where he attended school until his enlistment in the US Army in 1947. During his life he traveled a lot to spend time with various members of his large family. He worked in many fields of labor until his retirement in 1992. He was devoted to his extended family, and was loved by all who met and knew him. Robert is survived by two sons: Roney N. Mitchell of Little Rock, Arkansas and Stephen Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Theas L. Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren: Christie N. Thompson, Ebony N, Taylor R. Mitchell, Shanise Young, Eugene Young, and Meagan Taylor; and three great grandchildren: Samantha Thompson, Essence, and Julius Thompson; Four brothers: Rusaia (Ephraim) Taylor and Ralph Taylor of Leavenworth, Kansas, Frank (Jerry) Taylor, Meridian, Kansas and Larry Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister: Ann Marie Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas; and an aunt, Mary Lee Shepherd of Kansas City, Missouri. Robert also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends to mourn his passing. Visitation will be at the Davis Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Services will be held at the Davis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 11:00 am.

EILEEN MARIE NIETZKE
Eileen Marie Nietzke, 82, Leavenworth, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Saint John Hospital. Eileen was born on Oct. 1, 1922, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Ernest Theel and Florence Falk Theel. Eileen married Marvin K. Nietzke on May 26, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth. Eileen and Marvin would have been married 55 years. Eileen was a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who always placed the needs of others before her own. Her quick wit and endearing personality will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Nietzke of the home; two sons, Paul Nietzke and wife, Kathy, and Mark Nietzke and wife, Karen, all of Leavenworth; and granddaughter, Katie Eileen Nietzke, Leavenworth. Chad Michael Valencia, 16, Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2005, in Leavenworth. Chad was born on May 18, 1989, in Watertown, N.Y., the son of Kevin Michael Valencia and Ruth Dingman. Chad was a student at Leavenworth High School. He was in the 10th grade. Chad is survived by his father, Kevin M. Valencia; his mother, Ruth M. Dingman Bush; sister, Andrea M. Dingman; paternal grandmother, Alice Valencia; paternal grandfather, Frank Valencia and wife, Elizabeth; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. ROBERT MATTHEW DOUGHERTY
Robert Matthew Dougherty, 66, Leavenworth passed away Tuesday May 17, 2005 at his home. Robert was born November 17, 1938 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Alonzo David Dougherty and Frankie Cecilia Gilliand Dougherty. He attended Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, Kansas. On June 8, 1963 Robert married Emma R. Wake. She survives him at the home. Robert was a cook at the Veterans Administration Center, later he worked at the United States Penitentiary as a cook and after retiring worked for McDonalds for 22 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Federation of Musicians. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Emma R. Dougherty of Leavenworth; 1 daughter, Angela F. Garrott of Los Angeles, CA; 3 sons, Brian A. Dougherty of South Field, Michigan; Phillip L. Dougherty of Olathe, Kansas; Alan M. Dougherty of Kansas City, MO; 3 brothers, William Dougherty, Alonzo Dougherty, and Francis Dougherty all of Leavenworth; and 7 grandchildren. LYDIA A. BURRE
Lydia A. Burre, 97, Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Lydia was born on Oct. 9, 1907, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of August Ode and Bertha Hettich Ode. On June 5, 1929, at Leavenworth, she married Karl E. Wikelski; he preceded her in death on May 3, 1978. She later married Anton W. "Tony" Burre on Oct. 2, 1980, in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1994. Lydia taught school for three years in Leavenworth County. She was a homemaker. Lydia was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, was the memorial chairwoman for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a longtime volunteer for the Cushing Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Lydia is survived by a son, Karl Wikelski (Sue), Odessa, Texas; daughters, Delores Landfair (Bill), and Janet Lindgren, all of Dallas; five grandchildren, Todd, Timm, Shaun, Jeff and Terri; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Freddie, Lydia, Steven and Lindsay; and faithful caregiver, Joann West.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, Craig. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. EARL G. PETERS
Earl G. Peters, 98, Leavenworth, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2005, at his daughter's home in Carrollton, Texas. Mr. Peters was born on July 5, 1906, on a farm near Jarbalo, the son of John E. and Ida M. Hitzeman Peters. His parents preceded him in death as well as three sisters and three brothers. On Jan. 23, 1929, he married Gladys Drew in Leavenworth. She also preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Earlene McArdle of Carrollton, Texas; two granddaughters, Laura (Denny) Moffett and Pamela (Brent) Akers along with seven great grandchildren in Texas. Mr. Peters left the farm in 1935 to be employed by the Skelly Oil Company. He worked there until 1939 when he accepted an appointment at the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing. He retired in 1971 as factory superintendent with 33 years service; five years of that time being at the federal prison. Mr. Peters was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leavenworth. He was the director of the Fall Creek Cemetery for 27 years and a member of the Fort Leavenworth Hancock Masonic Lodge No. 311. While a member of Abdallah Shrine, he served as chaplain, a member of the foot patrol and as treasurer of that unit. He served two terms as president of the Leavenworth County Shrine Club and was a member of the Shrine Park Board. WILLIE TYSON
Retired U.S. Army Capt. Willie Tyson, 70, Leavenworth, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home. Willie was born on April 21, 1935, in Leavenworth, the son of Alfred Tyson and Faye Stewart Tyson. On Aug. 9, 1969, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, he married Ellen J. Cornett Kellison. Ellen survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Toyia Gay Tyson and Rod, James Lee Tyson, Alfred Eugene Tyson and wife Nancy, Tanya Kay Tyson, Willie Dean Tyson, Dale Oscar Kellison and wife Pam, Debra Lynn Malto and husband Ben, and Denise Eileen Flokos and husband Dimetrius; sister, Betty Ann Gilkison; eight grandchildren, Travis, Justin, Chris, Sean, Amanda, Joel, Chalain and Sara; and numerous nieces and nephews. Willie was career military, serving 24 years in the U.S. Army. Following his military career, he worked as a real estate agent, worked for the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, and for H&R Block. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a former elder and choir member of the church and he served on the St. Paul Lutheran school board. RALPH E. WILLCOTT SR.
Ralph E. Willcott Sr., loving father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Saint John Hospital. Ralph was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in Leavenworth, the son of Howard J. Sr., and Katherine Schanze Willcott. He grew up in the Willcott family home located above the Willcott Drug Store and Pharmacy which was located at Seventh and Kickapoo streets. On April 19, 1952, he married Mary Ann Duffin. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1984. On Aug. 31, 1991, he married Erma Moore. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2000. Ralph served in the U.S. Army for a short time as a military policeman. He was a businessman in the Leavenworth area for many years. He sold fireworks, Christmas trees and retired from insurance sales in 1984. Ralph was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also served as president of the Immaculata Booster Club. Ralph is survived by his children and grandchildren, Debbie and Marshall Beall and sons, Curtis and Brian; Dan and Yvonne Willcott and sons, Ryan and Kyle; Robert and Terry Willcott and son, Kyle; Ralph E. Willcott II; Denise Willcott and son, Graig Robinson; and by stepchildren and grandchildren, Mark and Cindy Moore and daughter, Tiffany; Bruce and Julie Moore and children, John, Katie and Timothy. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Howard J. Willcott Sr.; and brothers, Howard J. Willcott Jr. and Walt Willcott. Thomas Ray (Tom) Alexander, 46, Easton, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Tom was born November 13, 1958 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Ray F. Alexander and Janet J. Moulden Alexander. On July 15, 1994 he married Teri J. Boyd. She survives him. Tom is also survived by his daughter, Tesia Jordan, Easton, Kansas. Sons: Corey D. Boyd, Easton, KS & Matthew D. Alexander, Potter, Kansas. His mother and father, Mr. & Mrs. Ray F. Alexander, Easton, Kansas. Brother, Steve M. Alexander, Mesa, Arizona. Sister, Cheryl Holmes and brother in law C.C. Holmes, Houston, Texas. His aunt, Betty Alexander, Easton, Kansas. Ellen C. Jones, 77, of Leavenworth, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Colonial Manor, Lansing, Kansas. Ellen was born May 8, 1927, at the home of her grandparents in Hand County, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Howard L. & Grace C. Williams Beck. She grew up on the Beck family farm northwest of Rene Heights, SD. She attended and graduated school at Ree Heights, SD. After high school she worked along side her father, as a truck driver in the family trucking business. Ellen worked at Cushing Hospital and at the VA Hospital from which she retired after 21 years of service in April of 1994. On August 19, 1950 she married Charles E. Jones of Easton, KS. They were later divorced. Ellen is survived by her three children. Donald H. (Leslie) Jones of Leavenworth; David C. (Tracy) Jones and Diane (John) Behne both of Easton. Brothers Delton (Carol) Beck and Dean Beck, both of Ree Heights, SD and a sister Betty Fink of Farmington, NM, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dayle Jones, grandson Brandon Behne, nieces Carol Ann and Nancy Roediger and Michelle Fink. ORVILLE J. EDMONDS
Orville J. Edmonds, 89, Leavenworth, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Medicalodge of Leavenworth. Orville was born June 20, 1915, in Leavenworth County the son of Matthew J. and Pearl Stuckey Edmonds. He attended the Nine Mile School and Lansing High School. He was active in farming since he was old enough to sit on a tractor. He learned to dance at an early age with his family, which was their entertainment during the Depression. During World War II, he worked for McDonald Douglas in Santa Monica, Calif., and Tulsa, Okla., and for North American in Kansas City. He was an exceptional businessman who retired from dairy farming in 1972. He enjoyed daily trips to the farm to assist his two sons in their farming operations. Orville helped charter the First State Bank of Lansing and served as director for many years. He served on the board of directors of the MidAmerican Dairy Association and was treasurer of Delaware Township. In June of 1943 he married Norma Jean Vigus. She preceded him in death in 1969. On Oct. 23, 1971, he married Margaret W. Porter. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Jeannette Filippi (Bruce), Topeka, Leslie White (James), Baldwin City, and Constance Whitner (David), Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two sons, Donald Edmonds (Charlene), Lansing, and Ellis Edmonds (Kathy), Lansing; two stepdaughters, Kathryn Porter, Westminster, Colo., and Patricia Mills (Kent), Greeley, Colo.; three brothers, Russell, Chester and Willis Edmonds; two sisters, Bernice Smith and Rosalea Heuvel; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma Jean; two brothers, Charles and Howard Edmonds; and sister, Virginia Dearinger. Naomi Adeline Eagles Logan, 82, Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at her home. She was born on July 4, 1922, in Leavenworth, the daughter of William Ruffis Eagles and Addie Ritchardson Johnson Eagles. On May 1, 1940, she married Charles Gilbert Logan; he survives her. In addition, Naomi is survived by her daughters, Leslie Alane Kenley and husband, Richard, and Landace Ann Wayman and husband, James. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kaela Kenley Easley, Laura Kenley, Anna Kenley, Andrew Wayman and Matthew Wayman. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters. Naomi was a member of the First Baptist Church, 13th and Osage streets, Leavenworth. She was a member of the Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Club (PKARC) with a call sign of KAOLSY. Naomi was a student of martial arts and earned her black belt. She taught self-defense classes to women in schools, churches and civic groups. Naomi was a puppeteer for the program, Kids on the Block. She worked as a volunteer at Saint John Hospital conducting hearing tests on newborn babies. VIOLA VIRGINIA SHORTER
Viola Virginia Shorter left us to join our Lord and her loving husband, Chuck, on April 4, 2005. Vi was born on May 11, 1923, in Pleasanton, Kansas to Julia and Alva Dunn. Vi worked alongside her brothers and sisters on their farm. She later worked with her mother at the Home Cafe in Pleasanton. She moved to California and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" for a time before working in the Ivory Soap Factory. Vi managed a beauty shop in Kansas City, worked at Langley's Art Store in Kansas City and later worked at Rosalie's in Leavenworth. Vi married Chuck Shorter on February 15, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas. Chuck's military career took them to duty stations across the United States and Europe. Vi had a natural gift as an artist. This gift displayed itself in many ways including decorating her home, designing and sewing clothes, knitting and especially painting. Vi taught tole painting for several years. Her landscapes were displayed in solo exhibitions and in numerous area art shows where she received several awards.
She was a member of the local art association. A devoted Christian, Vi spent the last several years of her life studying The Word. She could truly appreciate the simple things in life, a drink out of the garden hose on a hot day; planting flowers in spring; a hot cup of coffee. Vi is survived by her three children: Marsha (Ed) Rinetti, Galena, Ill; Charlie (Joyce), St. Joseph, M0; and Vici (Larry) Bice, Bozeman, Montana; a sister, Peggy (Eldon) Brownback and a brother, Al Dunn. Vi has four grandchildren, Jamie and Danny LeBreton and Aaron and Kimberly Shorter. She also has one great-granddaughter, Margaret Ann LeBreton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her sisters, Bernze, Hattie and Johnnie June; and by her brothers George and Jim. Donald E. Yunghans, 80, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Medicalodge Post Acute, 65th and Greeley, Kansas City, Kan. Donald was born on Nov. 11, 1924, at Leavenworth, the son of Edwin A. Yunghans and Vinetta A. (Poggemeyer) Yunghans.He was a lifelong member of St. Martin Lutheran Church E.L.C.A., Kansas City, Kan., and farmed in the Piper area for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Evelyn Miller. Survivors include one brother, Robert Yunghans, Piper; two sisters, Rose Anna Withers, Kansas City, Kan., and Betty Miller, Bonner Springs; and 13 nieces and nephews. CAROLINE AUGUSTA EWERT
Caroline Augusta Ewert, 96, a lifelong resident of Leavenworth, entered eternal life on March 31, 2005 at Broadway Heights Nursing Center, Leavenworth. Caroline was born December 17, 1908, at Leavenworth, the daughter of August J Kuntz and Caroline A. (Achenhausen) Kuntz. She was baptized February 28, 1909 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the faith on April 9, 1922. She married Herman Ewert, a prominent local farmer and stockman of February 4, 1940. He passed away on April 24, 1958. Before her marriage, Caroline worked for the J.C. Penny Co. Following Herman's death, she continued to provide fresh farm eggs to Cushing Hospital and numerous customers in the Leavenworth area. She also worked for the R.B. Witaker Book Store, First National Bank and Bakers Department Store. She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years, a member of the Alter Guild and Ladies Aid. She is survived by one son, Ronald E. Ewert and wife Kay; five grandchildren: Kris Meinert and husband, Jim; Ron Ewert Jr and wife Angel; Tyler Ewert and wife, Joy; Dana Mazeitis and husband Derek; and Cassie Smith and husband Craig; nine great-grandchildren and one brother, August C. Kuntz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; and infant twin daughters, Caroline and Cynthia. A visitation will be from 6-8pm Sunday, April 3, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, April 4, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7th and Miami. The Rev Ed Mease will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery.

RODNEY DALE FORD
Rodney Dale Ford, 37, Lansing, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2005. Rodney was born February 18, 1968 to son of Williard L. and Linda S. Dixon Ford in El Paso, Texas. On September 29, 1995 he married Kimberly S. Castor. She survives at the home. He was an over the road truck driver. He loved taking care of his family and riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife and best friend Kimberly S. Ford, son Justin Dale Ford, 3; daughters Kyndra Jean, Jessica Brooke, and Kayla Marie. Brother Jason Ford; 2 sisters Tracie Sparks and Kelly Purduski, maternal grandparents, Charles and Monique Dixon, paternal grandmother Lucy Ford, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2005 at 2pm. The Rev'd Joe Trusty will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Thursday, March 31, 2005. Friends may call after 3pm. EDWIN CHARLES (BUZZ) DICKSON
Edwin Charles (Buzz) Dickson, 87, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Colonial Manor in Lansing, Kansas. He was born the son of Edgar and Ethel Tate Dickson on February 13, 1918 in Tracy, Missouri. He came to Leavenworth with his parents at the age of 9 and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1936. He worked as a carpenter / contractor with his paternal grandfather, father and brothers for Dickson Brothers Construction. He was a fifty year member of carpenters' Union No. 449. During WWII, he worked for North American in Kansas City, Kansas, building B-25 Bombers. Buzz enjoyed playing Johnson baseball and was a member of the Leavenworth semi-pro baseball team. As a young man he was selected for the St. Louis Cardinals training camp in Springfield, Missouri, along with his uncle, Murray Dickson. Always an avid sportsman, Buzz enjoyed bowling and pitching horse shoes in tournaments around the northwest Kansas region. Later in life, Buzz developed an interest in art and drawing and studied water color and calligraphy at the Carnegie Arts Center. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Nadine Murray. They were married July 14, 1938 in Tracy, Missouri. He is survived by one daughter, Cindy and son-in-law Bill Geiger; grandson, Todd Geiger and wife Susan of Mission; Two grandchildren, Paige of St. Louis and Julie of Overland Park; and Two Great-Grandchildren, Mitch and Macy Geiger. He is also survived by a brother, Ralph (Pete) Dickson and two sisters, Betty Lou Nakata and Dixie Dickson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William T and a sister Nadine Burke. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Pastor Karen Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 Monday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Carnegie Arts Center or the American Heart Association.

CATHERINE M. NESSMITH
Catherine M. Nessmith, 90, of Leavenworth, Kansas, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was born January 13, 1915 in Buchanan County, St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Charles and Dora Oberdiek. On August 29, 1975 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas she married Cecil Nessmith. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2002. Catherine was an active member and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary and a member of REAC. She loved to play cards, go bowling and fishing. She did volunteer work for both the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Broadway Heights. Survivors include her children: Doris Collins and husband Claude, Charles Raney and wife Bonnie, Virginia Marten and Barbara Buckner; grandchildren: Robin Crim and husband Kevin, Debbie Lakin and husband Jeff, CC Collins and wife Jodie, Charles Raney, Jr., Rebecca Edbe, Joe Cummins, Ron Dutcher, Lyle Dutcher, and Doug and Lori and numerous Great Grandchildren; her brother, Carl Oberdiek. She was also preceded in death by her brother Clarence Oberdiek. Visitation will be held from 6-7:30p Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. CHARLES ROBERT "CHUCK" DAVENPORT
Charles Robert, "Chuck" Davenport, 56, Basehor, Kansas passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005 at his home. He was born August 6, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of Charles Dail Davenport and Jaymee White Davenport. He was married to Mary Davenport, she survives him. He is also survived by his Daughter, Janice Gustafson and husband Timothy of Clarksville, Tennessee; Sons, Jacob Daniel Davenport, Fort Myers, Florida and Charles E. Davenport and wife Amber of Bolivar, Missouri; Mother and step father, Jaymme and Arthur Peterson of Leavenworth, Kansas; Sister, Patti Head, St. Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Dail Davenport; Sister, Kathy Peterson and Brother, Dail I. Davenport. Chuck served in the United States Army in Vietnam, he was a maintenance foreman for Owens Corning Fiberglass. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, Kansas and the V.F.W. in Basehor, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 2101 10th Avenue, Leavenworth, Kansas. HEARSHEL L. BAYLES
Hearshel L. Bayles, 98, Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Hearshel was born November 15, 1906 the son of William and Eleatha Smith Bayles in Guthrie, Oklahoma. On February 20, 1931 he married Nellie Mason. She preceded him death. As a young boy, his family moved by covered wagon to western Kansas. From there they moved to Stillings, Missouri. He attended the Stillings Schools. He farmed in the Missouri Rivers bottoms until moving to Potter, Kansas in the 1930's. He farmed in the Easton, Kansas area for a number of years. Twenty four of those years were on the Biehler farm known as the Round Barn Farm. He moved to Leavenworth in February 1969 and worked at the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co. He retired from there in 1977, and then worked at the YWCA until the age of 95. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He also took great joy in helping his neighbors in any way Survivors include daughter, Marguerite Bayles Sloan (John B Sloan) of Leavenworth and son David Bayles (Linda Elles) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Ralph Bayles. Funeral services will be held in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 10am. EMMA REBECCA (BECKY) BRUNNER
Emma Rebecca (Becky) Brunner, 80, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away, Wednesday, March 2, 2005 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on February 7, 1925 to Willie N. and Rosina Kocher Williams in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She married W.A. Brunner on September 4, 1943 in LaRussell, Missouri. W.A. preceded her in death in 1993 She was the oldest of six children with two brothers, Henry Williams of Carthage, Missouri and Starlan (Shortie) Williams of Branson, Missouri and three sisters, Clo Mathis of Kimberling City, Missouri, Kathy Williams of Parrish, Florida and Roseann Williamson of Big Springs, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and one half-brother, Woodrow Williams and one half sister, Willa Case. Becky is survived by two daughters Connie Hachenberg and spouse James, Leavenworth, Kansas and Susan Vornholt and spouse Jerry, Mayetta, Kansas and three sons William (Jr) Brunner of Troy, Texas, Charles Brunner and partner Michael Huerter, Hiawatha, KS and Glenn Brunner and spouse Julie. She also has thirteen grandchildren: Jason Boyd, Los Angeles, CA; Jordan Boyd, Lawrence, KS; Amanda Boyd Wade, Des Moines, IA; Brock, Michael, Mikala, Brian and Rebecca Brunner of Leavenworth, KS; Katie, Carley and Cole Vornholt, Mayetta, KS and Heather and Leslie Brunner, Hewitt, Texas. She also has one great-granddaughter, Riley Ann Wade, Des Moines, IA. Becky enjoyed being a homemaker for her family, and was well known for her great sense of humor and her fun-loving ways. She volunteered at the Fort Leavenworth Thrift Shop and at Munson Army Hospital as a "Gray Lady." She loved to attend water aerobic classes and even taught lessons. She also volunteered at the Leavenworth County Historical Society Museum and was a seamstress making slip covers and draperies for Leavenworth Floor Covering. With her husband, she enjoyed making many crafts, most famous for their rustic wooden cabin and outhouse wall hangings. She was an artist specializing in the impressionistic style. She was a "Life Member" of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority becoming a pledge of Alpha Pi Chapter in Leavenworth in November 1956. She has served on many committees during her 49 years of membership and was honored in 1979 when Xi Beta Iota chose her as the chapter's "Valentine Sweetheart." She has also received the "Order of the Rose" and Silver Circle awards, belongs to Laureate Beta Psi and is a special "Shut-In" member of the chapter. Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 6, 2005 from 6-8pm. A mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30am on Monday, March 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Roy Ontiveros as celebrant. Becky will then be laid to rest next to her husband, W.A. at the VA Cemetery with Father Bill McEvoy officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Leavenworth County Historical Society.

RONALD E BOZARTH
Ronald E. Bozarth, 72, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Ronald was born July 13, 1932 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Nathan Bozarth and Bertha Schultz Bozarth. He married Delores R Dancer in 1972. She survives him at the home. He is also survived by 4 daughters: Michelle Kiper-Hill, Shari Horan, Renee Anthor and Dawn Fisher; 1 son: Ronald E Bozarth, Jr.; 13 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister. Ronald was a member of the First Christian Church, Leavenworth, Kansas, Operation Wildlife, Fraternal Order of Eagles #55, and the Internal Association of Machinest. The family will receive friends from 1:00p - 1:30p Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. There will be a memorial service held at 1:30 pm Monday at the Funeral Chapel. CHRISTINE JONES
Christine Jones, Leavenworth, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at her home. She was 82. Christine was born October 8, 1922 the daughter of Marshall L. and Luvenia Lovejoy Lee in Atchison, Kansas. She was a loving and caring mother and homemaker. Survivors include 5 daughters: Sandra K. Bailey, Eula L. (Eugene) Wallace, Sharon R (David) Wallace, Clarinda Bailey and Mary L (Broderick) Jones all of Leavenworth. 12 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by Sylvia Tanksley, Janet Thrett and Lee Rowe. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son: Marshall Emerson, brother: Frank Lovejoy and great grandson Corvion Stewart. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 11am in the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev'd William Anderson will officiate. MARIA S. VAKAS
Maria S. Vakas, 80, Leavenworth, died February 28, 2005 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born July 22, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, as Amanda Mae Nickolopoulos and was later renamed Maria T. Nickolopoulos. She was the daughter of Catherine Marados Nickolopoulos and Theodore A. Nickolopoulos. She lived in Massachusetts and Montana before returning to Missouri where she met and married Speros Gustav Vakas in 1948. Mr. and Mrs. Vakas moved to Coffeyville, Kansas where they owned and operated Sammy's Steakhouse Restaurant. After her husband's death in 1958, Mrs. Vakas worked and wrote for the Coffeyville Gazette and served as the children's librarian in the Coffeyville Public Library. She also attended Coffeyville Community College. Mrs. Vakas and her children then moved to Emporia where she completed her bachelor's degree and obtained a teaching certification at Kansas State Teacher's College. The family moved to Leavenworth in 1964 where Mrs. Vakas taught kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grades in Howard Wilson, Lincoln, and Third Avenue Schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1989. She also taught in the Headstart program. Mrs. Vakas served a sponsor and contact for many of the Greek officers and their families stationed at Fort Leavenworth and taught English as a Second Language to their children. After her retirement, she performed volunteer work at the public library, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society and various other organizations. Mrs. Vakas was a member of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church in Overland Park, Kansas. She is survived by her daughter, Christina (Kris) Vakas Bates, Lawrence Kansas, her son, Colonel Constantine (Dean) Speros Vakas and his wife, Julie Starostka Vakas, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and a half-sister, Josephine Pruett, Mt. View, Missouri. Another half-sister, Ida Dillon preceded her in death. A visitation will be from 6-8pm, Thursday at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. Friends may call after 4 pm. Funeral services for Mrs. Vakas will be held at 10am Friday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leavenworth. THOMAS HAROLD AMBROSE
MSGT, (Retired) Thomas Harold Ambrose, United States Air Force, 86, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Broadway Heights, Leavenworth, Kansas. He was born June 16, 1918 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Thomas Hugh Ambrose and Minta Faye Lama Ambrose. On July 1, 1939 at Platte City, MO he married Rose Minnie Hooper. Thomas was retired United States Air Force, serving in the military for 30 years. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during W.W.II and then in the United States Air Force. He was preceeded in death by his parents; brother, Frank; and sister, Mary. He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 66 years, loving nieces and nephews, family and friends. No visitation is planned. Graveside service will be held at 10am Tuesday, March 1 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Chaplain Craig Scheidecker of Hospice of Leavenworth will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to Hopsice of Leavenworth or the American Cancer Society.

HOWARD W. HASKE
Howard W. Haske, 77, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away February 2, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital. He was born August 25, 1927. He served in the United States Army from December 2, 1945 to March 19, 1947. No visitation is planned. Graveside services will be held 11am Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

LAWRENCE "LARRY" F. MCKIBBEN
Lawrence "Larry" F. McKibben, 72, of Leavenworth, KS died February 18, 2005 at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Nursing home, in Leavenworth, KS. Larry was born August 30, 1932 in Hannibal, Missouri to Lawrence and Lena McKibben. At 10, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from De La Salle High School in 1950, he served seven years in the U.S. Marine Corp. Before retiring in 1988, he was a partner of K&M Sales, a manufacturing rep company. Larry then sold specialty advertising for Ad Craft. Larry and his family moved to Leavenworth in 1971. He was active in the Lansing High Booster Club and Leavenworth Country Club. Larry and his wife operated the Santa Surplus Store and Fireworks stands for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, traveling and the Chiefs. Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 45 years.; Sisters: Mary Roberts and husband William, Wichita, KS; Rita Crutcher and husband Jim, Citrus Heights, CA; Sons: Lawrence and wife Bianca, St. Louis, MO; Kevin and wife Suzanne, Roseville, CA; Grant and wife Melinda, Leavenworth, KS; Daughter: Nicole Murdock and husband David, Gardner, KS and 12 Grandchildren: Loraine, Francis, Cheroyl, Jane, Molly, Patrick, Jake, Jessica, Kathleen, Valeria, Holly and Blake. Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Ann (1957) and daughter, Kitty (1971). Visitation will be Friday, February 25 from 6-8pm at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Rosary at 7:30pm at the Chapel. Mass will be Saturday, February 26 at 10am at the Leavenworth VA Holy Ghost Catholic Chapel. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Overland Park. RALPH BERT RECTOR
Ralph Bert Rector passed away February 7, 2005. He was 76. Ralph was born in El Dorado, Kansas on March 19, 1928. He was the son of Irene Cecil Rector and John Bert Rector of Rosalia, Kansas. He graduated from Rosalia High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas in 1952. He later returned for his Master's degree in 1971. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Twila Oltjen at Robinson, Kansas on July 19, 1953. In 1956, Ralph became 4-H Club Agent with the Kansas State Extension Service and moved to Leavenworth, Kansas. Growing up as a 4-H member, he understood the challenges and opportunities of this family-based organization for youth. He served in Leavenworth County for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Ralph was past president of Kansas Association of Extension 4-H Agents, and held office for NAE4HA, the National 4-H Agents Organization. He was a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi, a national honorary extension fraternity. After retirement Ralph formed Rector Farm Data, a computer consulting business, which he enjoyed because it kept him close to the business of agriculture. The computer was also a source of enjoyment with newsletters and a family history. He was an active member of the Leavenworth Lions Club and was past president for the years 1975-1976. Ralph was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, John Bert Rector, in 1974. Survivors include: Twila, his wife of 51 years; his mother, Irene Rector, of Lansing, Kansas. Two sons survive: Dr. David Rector and wife, Becky, of Richland Washington and Steven Rector and wife, Janice, of Wichita, Kansas. Survivors also include two grandchildren: Brian Rector of Seattle, Washington and Lydia Rector or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2101 10th Avenue, Leavenworth, Kansas. Funeral service will be held 10am Friday, February 11, 2005 at the church. The Rev. Damian Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. RONALD STANDISH HYDE
Ronald Standish Hyde, age 68, passed away February 2, 2005 at his home in Easton, Kansas. He was born April 5, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert R and Berneta M (Standish) Hyde. Ron was a 1954 graduate of Leavenworth High School, and an Eagle Scout. He attended Park College, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Ron served in the 82nd Airborne Artillery Unit as a paratrooper from 1955 to 1958, after which he attended the University of Kansas. Ron retired in 1986 from the Federal Bureau of Prisons with over 26 years of service as a correctional counselor. He also farmed and raised polled Hereford cattle for 15 years on the family farm, "Hydeaway," in Easton, Kansas. Handball was Ron's favorite sport and pastime for 35 years. Ron married Rosalie (Ryan) Walton on July 25, 1981, and lovingly helped raise her twin daughters, Annette and Christine, as his own. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; sisters, Gloria Boon of Cleburne, Texas and Ann Hyde of Manhattan, Kansas; brother Thomas Hyde of Leavenworth, Kansas; and children and grandchildren, Annette and Padraig McGillycuddy, and their sons Liam Padraig and Conor Joseph, of Cypress, Texas and Christine and Christopher Waldschmidt, and their sons Ahren Jeffrey and Kai Josef, of Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Father Terry Bruce will officiate at the Memorial Service for Ron at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kansas at 12:00 noon on February 5, 2005. A family visitation will precede the Memorial Service from 11:00 am to noon. Eulogies will be read by his sons-in-law Christopher Waldschmidt and Padraig McGillycuddy. ELOISE ATKINS KRONKRIGHT
Eloise Atkins Kronkright died on January 31, 2005 at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Eloise was born on November 16, 1906, in Kimball, Nebraska. She was the youngest of six children born to Elizabeth and William Atkins. She graduated from Kimball High School in 1926 and attended the University of Nebraska where she earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1930. She taught Kindergarten and second grades in Wyoming and Nebraska prior to marrying Frank H. Kronkright, also of Kimball, Nebraska, on July 15, 1933. They adopted one daughter, Kathryn. The family moved to Leavenworth in 1947 when Mr. Kronkright bought the Firestone dealership, later known as Frank's Tire and Supply. Eloise was a fifty-year member of the Chapter OE, PEO and a seventy-five year member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school and served on the Alter Guild, and she is a member of the Cushing Hospital Guild. She was a enthusiastic bridge player, an avid reader, and a loyal "Cornhuskers" fan. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Meyer, of Leavenworth and by two granddaughters, Kelly E Mack, Cleveland, and Carrie C. Smith, Atlanta. The very Rev'd Michael Munro and the Rev'd Lee Sampson Block will conduct a funeral service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Friday, February 4, 2005 at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Mt. Muncie Cemetery. A lunch reception will preceed the service in the St. Paul Parish Hall at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Leavenworth Public Library or the Leavenworth Assistance Center.

DOUGLAS JOE PARKER
Douglas Joe Parker, 70, Leavenworth, passed away Jan. 29, 2005, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.Joe was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Burlingame, the son of Lester Parker and Gladys Droegmier Pogue; both deceased. He attended Leavenworth schools graduating from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1953. He married Anne Meaders on July 26, 1953. Anne preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 1995. One brother, Gus Parker, and a sister, Doris Trapani, also preceded him in death.He is survived by three sisters, Phyllis Moore and her husband, Bill, Gretchen Cowan and Linda Tarkington. He is also survived by his children, Douglas Parker and his wife, Sheryl, Leavenworth, and Jo Anne Parker, Lansing; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Parker, Nicklas Parker, Meghan Parker, Andrew Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Bethanie Stelter, Jacob Simanowitz and Sarah Simanowitz; and four great-grandchildren, Chelsa Stelter, Nathen Stelter, Riley Parker Cecil and Mila Anne Snedegar. His fianc/e, Joane Wyrick, survives at the home. He was a self-employed contractor for many years owning Parker Construction Company, which he had taken over after his father's retirement. He and Anne owned L & J Record Shop in Leavenworth, was formerly employed by Kaaz Construction Company and he was retired from the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, Mo.As a young man he obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking trips on his motorcycle. He was probably best known for his truly charitable spirit, generously giving his time and talent to family and friends, with his children and their families being the beneficiaries of his help in building their homes. Joe's greatest joy has been his family, devoting most of his time to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If you knew Joe, it was quickly apparent that his "babies" were what kept him going throughout some difficult times and he was looking forward to his routine of helping out with his great-grandchildren and entertaining at his large family gatherings.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the funeral chapel. Dr. William T. Nowlan will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

BREES RALPH MILLARD
Brees Ralph Millard, Sr., 92, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Cushing Hospital. He was born April 5, 1912 in Marshall Town, Iowa the son of Edward Nelson Millard and Ethel Anna Brees Cole Millard. On July 12, 1939 he married Dorothy Fern Porter in Platte City, MO. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2002. He was a welder and fabricator for 40 years, working for Missouri Valley Ship Yard in Leavenworth and for Kentworth Truck Co. He retired in 1977. Mr. Millard attended the Leavenworth Public Schools. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by his four sons: Brees R. Millard, Jr., Leavenworth, Kansas, Jerry D. Millard, Lakewood, Colorado, Larry D. Millard, Plano, Texas and Lawrence S. Millard, Atlanta, Georgia; Seven grandchildren, Five great grandchildren and one brother, Bill M. Millard of Oxnard, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Leota Nicola and Vivianna Howell; two brothers: Delbert Millard and Edward Millard. Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Muncy of the First Christian Church will officiate. REGGIE L. STOREY SR.
Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Reggie L. Storey Sr., passed away Saturday, January 15, 2005, at his home. Reggie was born July 1, 1950 in Eastover, S.C., the son of James and Edna Goff Storey. He married Glenna Jean Babbitt at Fort Leavenworth. She survives him at the home. His is also survived by his daughter, Tonja Troyan of South Carolina; his son, Reggie L. Storey Jr. of North Carolina; his stepdaughter, Marlene Wall of Virginia; his stepson, Gregg Babbitt of California; one brother, Ronnie Storey; one sister, Nancy Shirey; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna Storey. Reggie was career military, serving in the U.S. Army from July 29, 1968, to July 31, 1988. He was a Vietnam veteran. Following his retirement from the military, he owned and operated the Paradise Lounge. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He was a Southern Baptist. Visitation will be from 4-7pm, Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 7pm Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Pastor Sammy Howell will officiate. Following the funeral service, Reggie will go to the Greenlawn Memorial Park Funeral Home in Columbia, S.C., for funeral services. Memorial contributions may be given to Vietnam Veterans in care of Tommy Rodriguez.
