Leo A. Baldwin passed away Monday, March 24,
2008, at the Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth.
“
Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker
will be sorry.”
That sage advice from Mark Twain seemed to be Leo’s guiding light for his
life and those who knew and loved him benefited from his grand generosity. Leo
(known as Pop by his family) was a giving man of his time and knowledge and always
seemed to know something about everything. He was friends with everyone and truly
enjoyed being with people, which explains his pleasure with his job as a mailman.
He enjoyed his children and their children and was proud of all their accomplishments.
Pop was a World War II veteran of the Navy serving aboard the oiler U.S.S. Tallulah.
His patriotism carried through to the end of his life, and he instilled his love
of America in his sons and daughter. His calling to serve continued with his
leadership in the Boy Scouts where he served as leader and mentor for Leavenworth
boys in the 1950s and 1960s.
He loved music and was happy listening to classical music along with his country
and western records. He did develop an appreciation of Cyndi Lauper at age 70,
showing his keen interest in anything new, or wacky.
Growing up with Pop was always an adventure. Who of his kids will ever forget
his chicken ranch, trips to Gertieville, the bag of jalapenos he always carried
with him, his secret forays into the woods to hunt morel mushrooms, his antique
collections, his frightening propensity to spray paint anything that didn’t
run away fast enough, or his love of mowing the grass (he was the only person
any of us knew who wore the wheels off his lawnmowers). Pop was more of an influence
on us then we will probably ever realize. And we are all the better for that.
Pop is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margie, and sons, Kenneth, Bath,
Ohio, Dennis, Olathe, Howard, Kansas City, Kan., and daughter, Suzanne Valandingham,
Leavenworth; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
" We miss you Pop!”
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Davis Funeral
Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the C.W. Parker Carousel.

Donald Joseph Fos died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008,
at home with his family in Leavenworth.
Born on New Year’s Day in 1938, in New Orleans, La., he was the only child
of John Clemens Fos and Marietta Grimaldi Catalano.
At 16, he joined the Air Force and became a surveyor throughout the Far East
and South Pacific jungles. He received his pilot’s license in Florida.
In 1959, after leaving the Air Force, he flew for Shell Oil in South America;
was an air traffic controller at Moisant Airport in New Orleans; flew Logair
for Capital Airways; and then later flew for Ozark Airlines. In 1962, he began
a 30-year career with TWA.
Don met Sandy in 1961 at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Okla., and they
married later that year. They formed an unbreakable bond, explored the world
and supported one another without compromise. When asked last week what his secret
was for staying married for 46 years to the same woman, he replied, “Follow
the directions on the box.”
He taught his daughters, Dana and Nicole, more than a lifetime of common sense:
How to shift without a clutch; navigate mass transit anywhere in the world; avoid
bar fights in Madrid (grab your drink and face the wall; get anything unstuck,
from bolts to caterpillars to yourself from La Guardia; negotiate with “unfriendlies”;
shoot craps; and eat dinner with folks you just met an hour ago, whether or not
you speak the same language.
His brutal honesty proved genetic, and fighting for what we believe in was a
requirement. His loyalty was fierce, and the freedom he gave the three of us
is the ultimate expression of his love. To Harlo, Emari, Darbi and Fred: Work
hard, play hard.
“ I fly a starship across the universe divide. And when I reach the other
side, I’ll find a place to rest my spirit if I can. Perhaps I may become
a highwayman again. Or I may simply be a single drop of rain. But I will remain.
And I’ll be back again, and again and again and again and again.” — Jimmy
Webb
No service will be held. In lieu of flowers and donations, venture on that trip
you’ve always wanted to take, or start an IRA.

Frank
Boyd Inlow, 62, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away Saturday, November
22, 2008 at The Kansas City Hospice House. Mr. Inlow was born October
11, 1946 in Bismarck, ND. Having spent some of his boyhood years in Jerome,
Idaho, Frank mostly grew up in the greater Sacramento area graduating
from Encina High School.
Frank was the son of the late Abe and Mary Inlow. He is survived by his wife
of 24 years, Melinda Sue Inlow, his daughter, Mindy Roberta Cantu, and his son,
Erik Boyd Inlow. He is also survived by his cats Taz, Spice, Pumpkin, Ginger,
Pepe, Beau, Itty-Bit, Pepper and his dog Tony. His family are all formerly of
Sacramento, CA and now reside in Bonner Springs, KS.
Frank completed two years at Claremont Men’s College (Claremont, CA) before
enlisting in the United States Navy from 1967-71, where he worked in Radio Communications
and Aircraft Mechanics. Frank’s travels included a tour in Guam. During
Frank’s time in the Navy, he also became well-renowned for his culinary
prowess, especially his mastery of the breakfast menu. His signature dish was
known as “ Skippy”, a delightful mix of corned beef hash and eggs.
After serving his country with honor, he completed his undergraduate degree at
California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics
in 1974.
Frank had a long and productive career with Pacific Bell (now AT&T) throughout
the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s starting as an Engineering Aide, working
primarily in Computer Services Engineering, and ultimately advancing to senior
management with specific knowledge and expertise in Systems and Network Administration.
Some would look at Frank’s time with Pacific Bell/AT&T as “glass
half-full”, others might characterize it as “glass half-empty”;
however, the engineer in Frank would probably have commented that, in either
instance, the glass was probably twice the size it needed to be, and would have
drawn up a set of necessary diagrams to
correct the problem.
After retiring, Frank continued to share his wealth of experience as a consultant
for Kaiser Permanente, helping them with their communications and network systems.
When Frank finally settled into “true
retirement” he and Melinda moved to God’s country in the Alexandria
Township in 2002. Easton the town he was in is an outlying town from Leavenworth,
KS, which is itself an outlying town from Kansas City. Last year, he moved slightly
closer to metropolitan Kansas City by purchasing a home in Bonner Springs, KS.
Frank was an avid historian and had a deep fondness for all things shown on the
Animal Planet TV station, He leaves behind family and friends that will miss
his endearing charm, unique sense of humor, outstanding intellect and warm spirit.
A memorial service will be held at Carnegie Arts Center at 601 South 5th Street,
Leavenworth, KS at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 6. As this will be a celebration
of Frank’s life we recommended casual dress (no
suit, no tie).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in memory
of Frank Boyd Inlow to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway,
Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114.
