Ada Irene Young passed away on Monday, August 22nd at age 92. She was anxious to give Jesus a big hug!

Ada was born on May 26, 1930, in Tonganoxie, Kansas, the fourth child of John and Regina Dreiling Mondero. The family moved to Lansing when Ada was eight where she attended Lansing Grade School. She graduated from Immaculata High School in 1948. Ada married Eugene Young, the redheaded boy who lived up the street, on June 3, 1950. They raised four children, David (Wanda), Michael (Vickie), Ann (John Hoins), and Thomas (Teresa), in their home of 70 years on E. Lois St. in Lansing. Ada worked as the first woman letter carrier in Lansing for 22 years, retiring in 1990. Together, Gene and Ada shared their love for each other, family, friends, and community. She was active in her church, St. Francis de Sales, Kiwanis, Lansing Historical Society, Lansing Community Club, Lansing Booster Club, Birthright, Lansing Library, and many more civic organizations. Supporting the local community was always important to Ada. She and Gene were presented with several co-volunteer and humanitarian awards. They were always together, holding hands, and striving to make the Lansing and Leavenworth area a great place to live. Ada loved to travel, attend parties, and have fun.Gene and Ada moved to Homestead Assisted Living in March 2021. Ada was known as the "Bingo Queen." She and Gene loved the staff and thanked them regularly for their great support.Ada was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Rita, Clara, and Joe Mondero.

Ada is survived by her husband of 72 years, Eugene Young, her children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins. She had a fast smile and will be remembered as the greatest hugger of all time.

The Rosary will be said at 5:45pm on Monday, August 29 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing, followed by visitation from 6 to 8pm.  The funeral mass will be said at 10am on Tuesday, August 30th, at the church with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Ada's memorial wish is for a sidewalk to be built to join the parking lot to the Gazebo/Grotto at St. Francis de Sales to make it handicap accessible. Donations can be made directly to St. Francis de Sales for the Grotto Sidewalk fund.
