Obituary

Alpha Omega (Anderson) Thomas transitioned to rest on Monday June 27, 2022 at the comfort of her home with family, she was 93 years old. Alpha was born to Elizabeth Busey and Omega Anderson May 16, 1929 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She attended 1st and 2nd grade at the Mary Bethune School while living with her grandmother Ada Busey in Weston, Missouri and later moved back to Leavenworth in the 3rd grade where she attended Lincoln Elementary School. She attended Leavenworth Senior Highschool and participated in the cheerleading team on the CSAC (Colored Students Activity Club). She worked many jobs during highschool which included on the military base, housekeeping and dry cleaners. She married the late District Elder Leland O. Thomas in 1946. To this union, 5 children were born between 1946-1955. They were married for 62 years.

In 1952, Alpha began working as a nursing assistant at the Leavenworth VA Medical Center while living in Bain City, KS and Leavenworth KS. She received many awards and accolades for her outstanding nursing care and accelerated training during her 33 yrs of service to the nation's heroes. She retired from the VA in 1985, however continued to care for many residents at their homes in the Leavenworth community.

In 1966, she assumed her role as the first lady of the Pentecostal Church of Apostolic Faith supporting her husband, pastor, church family, and community for over 40 years until her transition home. She was well known throughout the community for her loving faithfulness and servant leadership of all people. Her favorite past times were church, baking/cooking, watching game shows, canning, playing dominoes and enjoying her friends and family. As the Matriarch of the family, she will be missed immensely.

Her legacy is being held in remembrance by her daughter Veda Marion Thomas Bishop (son Leland Thomas Jr. Grandchildren: Adrienne Daniels, Raquel Thomas, Angele Ashley, Wayne Sidney Jr, Leland Holt, Daniel Thomas, & Darvin Thomas. 20 Great-Grandchildren, 17 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, District Leland O. Thomas, 3 children- Yvonne Bryant, Jeanne Thomas, Cherie N. Thomas-Lange, one grandson Aaron Thomas, one sister Hazel Thorton, and 3 brothers, Robert, James, and William Johnson.

Visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church of Apostolic Faith at 1701 5th Avenue, Leavenworth, KS 66048 on Thursday July 7, 2022 from 6-8pm. Homegoing Celebration will be held Friday July 8,2022 at 10am at the church. Interment at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Repast will be held at the Hyman Jarrett Fellowship Hall at 1708 5th Avenue following interment, Leavenworth KS 66048. Please send all cards and condolences to the church.
