Ann (Annie) E. Satriano, 74, Olathe, passed away Sunday March 24, 2024. Annie was born April 26, 1949 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Michael J. and Josephine "Gerrie" (Gentile) Satriano. Annie was hit by a drunk driver when she was 3 years old, suffering injuries that left her permanently disabled. She moved to Leavenworth with her family as a young child. There were no special education opportunities in public school during that time, so her family sought to provide her with the best training and opportunities available. She began her educational journey by moving to Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, which at the time was considered innovative for training and educating people with disabilities.

Annie was always very close to her family. During her time at Parsons she enjoyed having her family visit her once a month. She loved coming home for week-long visits during the holidays and summers. One of her favorite activities during those visits was having large family gatherings with tons of food. One of her major contributions while living at Parsons was participating in a sheltered workshop program. Annie and her team developed and marketed a custom potpourri scent named "Sweet Annie" in her honor.

Annie took the opportunity to move to Lawrence to live her adult life. She started in a smaller group living opportunity, and eventually found her permanent home with the Hassaballa family. Annie and her family were overjoyed that she was close enough for more frequent visits. While in Lawrence, Annie continued to come for overnight visits, and enjoyed frequent visits not only from her sisters, but her nieces and nephew. Annie continued to be active in the day center at Goodlife, participating in activities such as art, cooking, music, and dancing. Annie also participated for many years in therapeutic riding and loved riding horses. She shared this special time with her sister Helen, and her favorite horse Aussie. She made many friends who assisted as side walkers and they all became known as the "A Team". Annie participated in horse shows and won many ribbons throughout the years.

Annie, along with the Hassaballas, moved to Olathe where she retired from participating in the sheltered workshop program. She became very close to the Hassaballa family, calling the parents Baba and Mama. Annie still enjoyed visiting with her sisters and their families, but finally realized her dream of living with her own family in a home she shared only with them. Mary and Helen continued to visit with Annie weekly. Through these visits, the Hassaballas became family to all of Annie's birth family. During Annie's retirement she enjoyed walks in the park, car rides in the country, outdoor activities and weekly lunches at her favorite restaurants Garozzo's, Olive Garden and Wahlburgers. Annie made friends wherever she went and the staff at these restaurants knew her by name and welcomed her with open arms often showering her with complimentary treats and personal gifts.

Annie was loved by all who knew her.

Annie is survived by her brother William Satriano (Karen), sister Mary (Satriano) Thompson, sister Helen (Satriano) McCann (Mike), brother Michael Satriano, nephew Michael D Satriano (Crystal), niece Teresa Satriano Fous niece Kimberly Thompson, nephew James (Elizabeth) Thompson, niece Kristen (McCann) Chrislip (Dan), niece Michaela (McCann) Rush (Justin),

niece Madeline (McCann) Goldsich (Pete) and several great nieces and nephews. The Hassaballa family Hassaballa O. Hassaballa (Baba), Kawather Haroun (Mama), Ithar Hassaballa, Jawahir Haroun, Ruaa Hassaballa-Muhammad (her husband), Mujahid Hassaballa (his wife), Magda Abduljabbar, Abdelkarim Khatir, Hamzah Khatir and four nieces and two nephews.

Annie is preceded in death by her parents Michael and Gerry Satriano, brother-in-law James Thompson, and great nephew, Matthew Thompson.

Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Therapeutic Riding, 19655 Antioch Road, Overland Park, Kansas, 66013.

Visitation is will be 4:00 to 5:00 P.M., April 6, 2024 at Davis Funeral Chapel with Celebration of Life following. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
