Arthur Henry Burre, "Art," passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Friday, November 27, 2020.  Art was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 16, 1921. Art was born of German heritage to his parents and was the youngest of a family of six siblings. Art attended Leavenworth High School, Leavenworth, KS and following, he served a tour with the U.S. Army Air Corps, as a Dental Technician. After returning to Leavenworth, KS, Art joined his family in running the Burre Fruit Farm, where they grew and sold Christmas trees and fruit, mainly apples, peaches and strawberries, and the farm is said to have had the best apple cider around. Additionally, the Burre Fruit Farm was a place where many young people in the community spent their summers helping out on the farm, picking and selling fruit and assisting with farm chores. Meanwhile, the local schools would send buses of school children to the farm to pick pumpkins. Art was always so proud when years later, these same "kids," now grown, would share their memories of their summer jobs and experiences on the farm.

Throughout his years, Art was passionate about fishing and went on many fishing excursions to the Green River, Utah, Minnesota and Canada with his brothers and friends. He was well traveled, having visited many exotic locations that included several African countries, exploring far-reaching locations such as Tonga and Papua New Guinea, jaunting as far north as Alaska, Scandinavia and the Northwest Territory of Canada, and as south as Australia and New Zealand, enjoying the diversity of Europe and the uniqueness of South America and Asia. In total, Art has explored over 70 countries on 6 of the 7 continents and over 139 cities outside of the U.S.

Art continued to run the Burre Fruit Farm until he retired several decades ago; however, he did not stop working until his late 90s and stopped mowing when he was 98 years old. Art's last "real" job was as a Carousel Operating Engineer at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum in Leavenworth, KS, a career that he really enjoyed. In his free time, Art was a voracious reader of westerns and absorbed the National Geographic cover-to-cover. He enjoyed tinkering with his farm tools, playing the German card game Schafkopf with his friends at the Leavenworth community center and sitting on the porch enjoying the weather and watching the wildlife. Art was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, KS.

Art is survived by his wife, Joan Burre, step-children Paula Lumby, Brenda Francek, John McCord, granddaughter, Danielle Lumby, nephews Harold Burre (Lila), Charlie Burre (Susan), David Burre (Rona), and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
