Charles Edward Haupt, 86, passed away peacefully, with family at his bedside, on Monday January 13, 2025.

Charles was born November 22, 1938 in Effingham, KS to John and Marguerite Haupt. Charles attended school at the historic one-room schoolhouse, The Hund School. He enjoyed visiting the school with his children and grandchildren; telling them stories of his childhood. Charles grew up in the historic 8-mile house of Leavenworth County.

In June of 1970, he married the love of his life, Sandra Wagner. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising three daughters. For over two decades, Charles served as a Groundskeeper for the City of Leavenworth, a role that allowed him to contribute to the community he deeply loved. He and Sandra were longtime members of Happy Hollow Lake, where countless weekends and vacations were spent camping and making memories with family and friends. After his retirement, he enjoyed driving his Rat Terrier, Luis, around Leavenworth to visit the sites he spent many years maintaining while at the city. Charles enjoyed spending time with family, holidays with his great-grandchildren, and watching KU basketball games. Most of all, he enjoyed taking car rides and sharing his knowledge of Leavenworth with his daughters.

He was preceded in death by his Wife Sandra, parents John and Marguerite, brothers John Haupt Jr., Carl Haupt, James Haupt, sister Alice Haupt, nephew David Haupt, and daughter Stephanie Harper.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Dave)Wacker and Shelley Parks, Leavenworth; his sisters Anna May Haupt, Easton, KS; Joyce Amos, Jacksonville, AR; Ruth Marshall, Fredericksburg, VA; and Martha Ann Haupt, Easton, KS; six Grandchildren, Lee (Brandy) Tripp, Shanna Harper, Kristian (Gouming) Harper, Jessica Tripp, Kyle Parks, and Dalton Tripp, thirteen Great-Grandchildren, five Great-Great Grandchildren, seven nephews and three nieces.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Twin Oaks Assisted Living in Lansing, Kansas, for their exceptional care and compassion during Charles's final days. Their kindness eased his transition and provided comfort to our family.

Celebration of Life will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Visitation from 1pm to 2pm, Memorial service will follow. Memorials and contributions can be made to: CurePSP or American Cancer Society.
