Courtney Marie
Shearer
Jul 4, 1997 — Oct 14, 2020
Leavenworth
Courtney Marie Shearer, 23, Leavenworth KS passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, in a tragic car accident. She was born July 4, 1997, in Leavenworth to Wendi Anaya-Wilson and Chad Shearer. Courtney adored and loved her older brother, Justin Jauernig, and throughout her childhood their bond was inseparable. When she was born, Justin said when he held her for the first time that she was as sweet as a cookie. From then on, Courtney was known as Cookie Girl.
Being born on the Fourth of July gave her a spark like no other. She was beautiful, loving, caring, and honest to a fault that she had no filter, and you knew exactly how she felt. She was a natural athlete who was competitive and aggressive and excelled, with little effort, in any sport she tried. Her favorite sports were volleyball, softball, and judo.
Courtney graduated high school from North Kansas City Ace Academy in 2015. In 2018, she got hired on at Freddy's in Lansing KS and worked her way up to shift supervisor. She had to quit in 2020 due to COVID-19, but was actively seeking employment.
Courtney met the love of her life, Shawn Corkins, on December 29, 2018. They loved spending time outdoors, fishing, and sitting around a campfire. They got engaged March 9, 2020 and had been talking about starting a family. In her journal, she wrote "I'm going to open up my heart and prove my love for Shawn. He is amazing, he's smart, and beautiful and I'm going to love him forever."
Courtney is survived by her mother Wendi (Scott) Wilson, her father Chad Shearer (Sherri), brother Justin (MaryBeth) Jauernig, fiance Shawn Corkins, maternal grandparents David Anaya and Dixie Anaya, uncle Eric (Barbara) Anaya, paternal grandparents David Shearer and Jacque Shearer, aunt Angelique Shearer, and numerous great uncles, great aunts, and cousins.
Courtney was preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents Frank and Emma Anaya and Carl and Carol Ditsch and her paternal great grandparents Bruce and Joyce Shearer and Patricia Benjamin who she called Nana.
Courtney would be upset with me if I didn't mention the love she had for all of her friends that she hung out with her entire life. Hold your memories and stories of her close to your heart, and think about them when you find yourself missing her. Even though none of us got to tell her goodbye and say I love you one more time, she knew in her heart that we all did, and I know without a doubt that she loved us all.
Memorial contributions may be made to Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) or Leavenworth Humane Society.
