Cynthia Coleman, 76, Bonner Springs, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Cindy was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on October 9, 1947 to James Lloyd and Henrietta (Sally) Porth Connelly. She grew up in Kansas City Missouri, graduating from Southwest High School in 1965.

She attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Later, she earned a Master of Arts in Education degree and  a Specialist in Education degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Cindy was employed by the Kansas City Missouri School District from 1969-1982, working as a teacher at East High School, and as a counselor at Van Horn, Paseo and Fairview Alternative High Schools. She was employed at Piper High School, Kansas City, Kansas from 1982-86. She was employed as a counselor at Kansas City Kansas Community College from 1986 until her retirement in 2006.

Cindy was a Life member of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Alumni Association and the National Education Association.

Cindy was married to Kennie Coleman from 1992-2019 (his death).  Previous marriages were to Robert Russell and to James Draper, both of Kansas City.

Cindy was very athletic and was good at several sports including golf, tennis, bowling and water skiing. She and her husband Kennie enjoyed travelling together, especially on cruises. She liked refinishing furniture, and working on home improvement projects. She and Kennie enjoyed boating and other activities at their vacation cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Cindy was actively involved in her Homeowners' association and the Kansas NEA for many years.

Cindy is survived by her brother, Patrick Connelly, Newport, WA and her sister Lillian Connelly, Longmont, CO; 3 stepsons: Terry L. Coleman (Sandy), Bonner Springs, KS, Kennie Lee Coleman (Denise deceased), Lansing, KS, and Rick Coleman (Susan), Eudora, KS. and 10 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be sent to Harvesters, or Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society, (LAWS). Private family services will be held at a later date.
