Darrell Dean Shopbell, 82 years of age, passed away Friday, April 5th, 2024. Darrell was born in Leavenworth, KS on March 25th, 1942 to Leo and Beulah Shopbell. Darrell lived in Leavenworth his whole life. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1960. He served in the National Guard for six years and was called up for RA during the Vietnam conflict. He was the service manager at Rusty Eck Ford for 7 years before going to work on Fort Leavenworth. Darrell retired from Fort Leavenworth Directorate of Logisitics in 2005.

On June 12, 1965 Darrell married the love of his life Sara Sims at the First United Methodist Church. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage in June. To this union two children were born, Janine Marie and Trisha Lee.

Darrell enjoyed many things in his life, mushroom hunting, coin collecting, watching the Chiefs and KU, and loved all things cars. He also enjoyed bowling and bowled a 300 game at Crown Lanes on October 25, 1990. Fishing was one of his favorite pasttimes, and he enjoyed our family trips to Lake of the Ozarks where he could spend all day on the dock. However, the one thing he loved above all else was his family. Darrell loved his family unconditionally and wholeheartedly. He enjoyed every moment he was with them. He loved and cherished his 4 grandchildren, and his 5 great grandchildren.

Darrell was greeted in heaven by his parents, Leo and Beulah Shopbell, his sisters Mickie Kolling, and Betty Mathis, several aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Darrell leaves behind his wife Sara Shopbell, daughters Janine (Rob) Hacker and Trisha (Kevin) Fulcher; His siblings Betty Swearingen, Lorrie Cockerham, Barb Pulos, and Earl Davidson; his grandchildren Bethany (William) Blandin, Tiffany (Gage) Thunder, Gabby (Saxon) Mingus, and RJ Hacker; his great-grandchildren Ellie, Tucker, Nakos, Toni, and Hvyvtecv; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Darrell was a great man who placed importance on family, shaped the lives of his loved ones, and loved strong. He will be greatly missed in his families lives.

Darrell will be honored at the Leavenworth National Cemetery on May 17th at 11:00 am and the family will host a Celebration of Life on May 18th from 12:00-2:00 at the Eagles Lodge in Leavenworth KS. In lieu of flowers Darrell requested donations be given to Wounded Warrior Project which can be collected at Celebration of Life or mailed to his wife, Sara Shopbell, 1111 North 8th Street, Leavenworth KS 66048.
