David L. Barta, Jr, Leavenworth, Kansas passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024 at Anew Health Care and Rehab in Easton, Kansas under the care of Good Shepard Hospice.

Dave was born to Dave and Neena Barta on January 20, 1946.

Dave is survived by his younger siblings Nancy Kovic, Highlands NJ, Lisa Barta, Kansas City, MO, Tina Cassella, Leavenworth, KS, and Kim Barta, four nieces and nephews Shelby, Tobi, Jake Barta and Cody Thies.

Dave was preceded in death by younger brother Michael Barta his mother and father.

Dave attended Immaculata High School. He was drafted into the United States Army on August 23, 1968 to May 18, 1971 and May 19, 1971 to November 7, 1974. He was in the Green Berets Staff Sgt from September 23, 1968 to April 29, 1970 in Vietnam.

Dave lived in Hawaii for some time after his discharge. He returned to Leavenworth and retired from the Kansas State Penitentiary.

Donations can be made to Good Shepard Hospice. Funeral services to be determined at a later date.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.
