David Dale Owens "Big Dave", age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of June 24, 2025, in Easton, Kansas.
David was born on January 9, 1945 in Ottawa, Kansas, to Robert Edward Owens and Evelyn Juanita Reynolds (Robinson). He was raised in Bain City, Kansas, by his mother and stepfather, Robert "Ben" Edwin Reynolds.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Tom Reynolds, Mike Owens, Jim Owens and Tom Owens; sister, Ruthann Bucher; his son, Clint Owens; daughters-in-law Debbie Owens and Gina Owens; and brothers-in-law, Paul Roche and Jack Bucher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Donna Kay (Reichling) Owens; his children: David Owens, Frank Owens (Shelly Bledsoe), Tony Owens (Ann), and his daughter, Krystal Owens-Taylor (Mike); grandchildren: Wendy Murray (Tim), Ashley Kappeas (Marc), Toni Marie Owens, Faith Owens, Allison Lee (Chris), Hannah Owens, Julie Owens, Kayla Taylor, and Kody Taylor; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Deacon, Raegyn, Briar, Baylei, Raelynn, Shane, Wyatt, Daryl, and McKinley; his brother, Robert Edward Owens, Jr.; sisters: Sue Roche and Linda Griffith; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
David proudly owned and operated Owens and Sons Concrete Construction from 1965 until his retirement. He had a passion for "prime timing", fishing, watching westerns, relic collecting, card games, trips to the casino, storytelling, and most of all coon hunting. In the coon hunting world, he raised many title achieving dogs and was a Kansas Federation Houndsman lifetime member, an AKC/ACHA top judge in the United States and was an AKC Kansas State representative.
He never met a stranger and was always ready to offer a hot meal, a ride, his last dollar, and his unique advice for any situation.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Davis Funeral Chapel, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Easton Cemetery immediately after the service. A reception will be held at St. Lawrence Hall in Easton following the graveside service.
