Della May Lewis, 78, Leavenworth, lost her battle with cancer on December 19, 2020 at
Medicalodges of Leavenworth.

Ms. Lewis was born October 5, 1942 in Sullivan, Indiana, to Fred B. and Tressie Rouse,
one of 12 children in a farming family. She attended school in Sullivan and graduated
from Sullivan High School, class of 1960.

After high school, she moved to New York, living there briefly with one of her sisters.
While there, she worked in a factory.

After leaving the factory job, she enlisted in the U.S. Army, going through basic training
at Fort McClellan, Alabama. After basic training, Ms. Lewis was stationed briefly at Fort
Sam Houston, Texas, from which, she was assigned to Fort Leavenworth.

It was at Fort Leavenworth that she met her future husband, then Sgt. Cline Joseph Lewis
of Newark, New Jersey. They married in 1962, after her discharge from the Army, and he
preceded her in death in 1982.

Approximately 18 months after Mr. Lewis's death, Ms. Lewis began employment as a
stockroom clerk, at the PX at Fort Leavenworth, and during her 35 years there, she did
two year-long tours in Iraq as a civilian government employee. She retired from the PX
on August 22, 2019.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, doing puzzles, walking her dogs and watching TV. She
particularly loved reading and watching murder mysteries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings and one son, Timothy Lewis, of
the home.

She is survived by one son, Jay Rodney Lewis, of the home.

Funeral services will be held at the Davis Funeral Chapel and will be private. Cremation will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
