Dick G. Mathis, 73, passed away on November 24, 2024, at his home in Leavenworth, KS. He was born on September 7, 1951, to Leroy and Naomi Mathis in Leavenworth, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Naomi Mathis, his brothers Leroy and Ray Mathis, and his sisters Ethel Jones and Irene Holmes. His son Dick Mathis II and daughter Lynette Williams.

He is survived by his sister Judy Schmidt, brother Lawrence Mathis, daughters Dixie Mathis and Gail Mathis, son Richard Mathis,and Lila(Busch) Mathis, along with 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. As well as nieces and nephews.

Dick attended Leavenworth schools and worked various jobs throughout his life, including being a bouncer at a bar, working on cars, doing auto body work, and later working for the Board of Education. He loved telling stories about his past, especially the profound experience that led him to believe in Jesus after being pronounced dead and seeing his father and Jesus.

Dick was one of the most generous people he would give you the shirt off his back. Over the years, he had helped numerous people didn't even have to ask. He would just let you move in or stay with him. If he had it, you need it, it was yours. He had a passion for cars, loved working on them, and cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren, which always brought a smile to his face.

His service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Davis Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Afterwards, family and friends will gather at the Chinese buffet to remember and celebrate his life.
