Don Wenger passed away in his sleep on March 24th, 2024 in Leavenworth, Kansas.  He was 94 years old.

Born in Milford, Indiana, to Ezra and Ella Wenger, Don grew up with a large family in Goshen, Indiana.  Eager to see the world, he joined the Army on March 31, 1949 and landed in Japan where he (finally) summoned the courage to say hello to a pretty Japanese young woman named Suzuyo "Suzy" Hongo.  That greeting led to a 72-year marriage and one daughter.

During his Army career, Don spent time in Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Fort Leavenworth, KS.  While in the Army, he earned several medals among them the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Upon his retirement as a Sergeant First Class, he and Suzy settled first in Leavenworth, Kansas, and then moved on to North Carolina and Indiana, and finally back to Leavenworth.  His photography business, Don Wenger Photo, kept him busy preserving wedding memories for hundreds of couples.  Besides photography, Don played golf and cards, loved to tend to his yard, and was a noted marksman.

Don is survived by his daughter Karen (and husband Steve Briggs) of California, his two grandchildren Amy and Joe Gorman of New York, and his former son-in-law Bryan Gorman of Tennessee.  His remaining family live in Indiana and Texas.
