Dorothy Ann Meredith Van Meter was born to Jesse and Lula Stevens Meredith in Winchester, Kansas December 18, 1929. She graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School and then worked at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas until she married Jack D. Van Meter, US Army, April 4, 1954 at the First Christian Church in Leavenworth, Kansas.
As a military wife she shared numerous military assignments with her husband to include Germany and Pakistan. She also worked at St. Mary College, Leavenworth Kansas.
Survivors are her Son, Jay (Anne Luna) Van Meter of Santa Barbara, California; Daughter, Amy (Harlan) Kats of Arlington, Texas and grandchildren Sam (Tyler) Kats of Corinth, Texas and Jesse Kats of Arlington, Texas; Niece Diana Harris of Valley Falls, Kansas, Nephew Charles Highfill of Leavenworth, Kansas. Predeceased by parents, husband Jack, brother Lester Meredith, sister Reba Meredith Highfill, sister-in-law Eileen Meredith, and nephews Larry Meredith and George Highfill.
In 1998 she and her husband moved to Rockford, Illinois and then to Mansfield, Texas in 2011 to be near their daughter and family.
Graveside Service will be Tuesday, April 29, 2025, 10 AM at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
