Elizabeth "Betsy" Gast's Obituary
Elizabeth Jean (Betsy) Gast, 69, of Lansing, Kansas passed away March 2, 2023.
Betsy was the daughter of J.B. and Jean Rinehart and was born in Bethany, Missouri on November 17,1953. She was raised in Albany, Missouri and graduated from Albany High School in 1971.
She then moved to Hawaii where she went to college at the University of Hawaii where she met her first husband, Daniel Victorine. Betsy & Dan married in 1972 and welcomed their daughter DeAnne in 1978. They remained married until 1995. In the summer of 1996 Betsy was introduced to her second husband, Thomas Gast and married in 1999.
Betsy worked in public service throughout her life. Whether it was working in factories, bartending & waitressing, doing accounting at Park College, managing a retail store or doing what she was most passionate about, sewing and seamstress work, Betsy always worked hard and made some lifelong friends.
Betsy was passionate about motorcycle rights and Freedom of the Road Riders. She was active for many years in ABATE of Kansas. She was the first female Vice President elected to hold a state board position.
Betsy was predeceased by her father, mother, and her sister, Christina Saville Schwartz.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gast, her daughter, DeAnne Ruebhausen (Husband Doug) and their daughter Victoria, her sister, Margaret (Annie) Gordy (husband Ron) and her children Aimee Mohr and Ryan Foster and their families.
The celebration of Life for Betsy will be held at the Leavenworth VFW, 519 Cherokee Street. On Saturday March 18, 2023 from 3pm-7pm.
