Obituary

Gail Anita Louise Hesser, 89, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025. Gail was born in East Providence, Rhode Island, on April 2, 1936, to parents Robert and Isobel Norberg. On October 10, 1953, Gail married Gene Edwin Hesser in Council Grove, Kansas. Together, they made a life in Leavenworth and raised five children: Deborah (Candy), Gene Jr. (JR), Lennie, Robert, and David.

Throughout her life, Gail had a generous spirit and a creative heart. She was an avid sewer, often making clothes for her granddaughters and their dolls. Gail's cake decorating skills were unmatched. For many families in the Leavenworth area, including her own, Gail's cakes were the centerpiece of every occasion. From baby showers and birthdays to bachelorette parties and wedding receptions, there was no shape or style of cake that Gail could not create. Gail was incredibly crafty; with a little paint and hot glue she could transform a simple item into a unique treasure. Gail enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. She even met several good friends in online chat rooms over the years, and she stayed in contact through email for as long as she was able. Those who knew her will remember Gail's strength, wit, and energy. She will be terribly missed, but we are deeply thankful for the memories she gave us.

Gail is survived by her children Lennie, Robert and his wife Cindy, David, and Daughter in Law Debbie, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her children Debbie(Candy), JR, her son in Law Dave, Daughter in Law Cassie, her great-grandson Christopher David, and her long-time companion, Bud.
Gail will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. At this time, no memorial service is planned.
