Obituary

Gertrude Clara Woodring, born March 19, 1940 to Emil and Alma Kisker, entered her heavenly home on January 21, 2025. "Gertie" enjoyed growing up on a farm in the East Leavenworth and Farley, Missouri area with her parents and her sister Rosemary, and their many cousins. Gertrude graduated from West Platte High School in 1958, and attended Central Missouri State University, earning her Associate Degree in 1960.
Gertrude Kisker and Larry Woodring were united in marriage on August 18, 1962, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farley. From this union were born three children: Bryan Woodring, Melinda (Gregg) Heinrich, and Karla (Mark) Fredericks. Gertrude deeply loved and enjoyed time with her four grandchildren, Maxx (Emily) Woodring, Lucas Heinrich, Lauren (JD) Walter, and Aaron Fredericks. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, of 61 years, and by her sister, Rosemary.
Gertrude had a career as the Administrative Director for the Military Director at Department of Engineering and Housing, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. She took great pride in her professionalism and work ethic, providing continuity for the many directors throughout her 16 years, 21 years in total at Ft. Leavenworth. Gertrude was also a homemaker, involved in her children's education and activities, and in later years helped care for her grandchildren wherever she was needed. She joyfully served her church and her community in many different volunteer roles. Gertrude played piano, sang in the church choir, and was a talented seamstress. She was generous and kind, always looking for ways to uplift others; she especially enjoyed sending cards and personal notes to family, friends and shut-ins in times of celebration, sadness, or just to say hello.
Our mom and grandma will be deeply missed, but we rejoice that she is Home with the Lord and reunited with our dad and grandpa Larry.
Services will be held Monday, January 27 at 10:30am, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farley, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church. Davis Funeral Chapel
