Obituary

Gregory Lee Denney, 73, Leavenworth, left this life and went to join His Heavenly Father on Friday March 8, 2024, at Advent Hospital, Merriam KS, surrounded by his loving family.

Greg was born in Leavenworth, KS on March 30, 1950, to John Denney and Dorothy (Wright) Denney. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Greg was a 1968 graduate of Leavenworth High School. After graduating he worked at many jobs, including JF Denney Plumbing and at Wendy's where he served as manager.

In 2017 Greg moved to Branson, which had been a lifelong dream. He enjoyed visiting with the customers as he worked at Ripley's Museum. He spent his free time sitting on his deck, enjoying the view and feeding the birds. In 2022 he returned to Leavenworth to be closer to his family. He began working part time at Culver's, where he once again enjoyed visiting with all the of customers, bringing a smile to many.

Greg coached youth baseball teams and indoor soccer teams for his son and daughter as they were growing up. He enjoyed working with the youth when he was at Wendy's. He made sure to host special nights to benefit organizations at both Immaculata and Leavenworth High Schools. In 1994, as manager, Greg helped institute the Wendy's/ Citizens National Bank Basketball Tournament.

Greg started each day spending an hour with his Savior as he read his Bible and studied the Word. He was a kind and generous person, who enjoyed people and would talk to anyone who listened. He would help anyone needing a hand.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Grandma Mayme, other grandparents, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his son Derek Denney and his daughter Beth Stafford (Travis), grandchildren Aaron, Zach, Madison Sumner, Zoe, Kylie Hampton, Avery, Carson Stafford, Chloe Stafford, and one great grandson, Nolan. Greg leaves behind two brothers: John (Connie) and Michael (Marilou) and four sisters: Barbara Alonzi (Rett), Marsha, Julie Taylor (Steve), and Becky Kobler (Brian). Greg also leaves behind two aunts, two uncles and many cousins.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M., Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be 10 A.M., Saturday, March 16, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with graveside service to follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Trinity House or  Paul's Buffet.
