Harriet Elizabeth Thomas Al-Baghal, age 80, of Leavenworth, KS passed away on September 14, 2023 in Kansas City, KS. She is survived by her brother, Bud (Linda), son, Tarek (Mubeena), grandchildren, Asiya and Sana, daughter, Lisa and many beloved "surrogate family" and friends.

Harriet's life work was caring for others as a Registered Nurse in surgical oncology, as an instructor, in private practice, and most recently at Leavenworth High School. In addition, she enriched the lives of so many as a Girl Scout leader, wildlife rehabilitation volunteer, foreign exchange student host parent, role model, friend and confidante. Harriet was an avid reader and bird watcher who enjoyed life-long learning, trying new crafts with friends and traveling to see her children and granddaughters around the country and in the United Kingdom. She showed her unconditional love through infinite generosity, mealtime conversation and gift giving.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Leavenworth Community Center on Sunday, 24 September 2023, from 4-6 pm.  Harriet will be buried with family in her hometown of Baltimore, MD at a later date.
