Helen Ruth Chatburn Nowlan (86), Springdale, KS went to be with our Lord on February 17, 2021.  She was born on January 4, 1935 to Thomas and Rebecca Chatburn in Oklahoma City, OK.  She was the oldest of 3 daughters. Helen spent her life teaching math in both High School and College levels.  She received her Bachelor degree from Phillips University in Enid, OK, where she met the love of her life Rev. Willian Taylor Nowlan Ph.D. They were married September 4, 1955. She earned her Master degree from Webster Grove University and her Ph.D. from Ole Miss University in 1978.  She retired from Leavenworth High School where she taught math for 1979-1995.

Helen became a member of the Leavenworth First Christian Church in 1979 where she was an Elder emeritus. She was a member of Leavenworth County retired teachers and AE PEO in Kansas.  She also loved to socialize with friends by playing bridge every Thursday morning. She was an accomplished author who had published poems and had written, published, and composed music.

Helen was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William and her youngest sister Rachael Bradley.  Helen is survived by her son Patrick Thomas Nowlan, Lawrence, KS, daughter Kathy Lynn Nowlan Powell, Springdale, KS, grandchildren Thomas William Powell (Chelsea), Hays, KS, David Michael Powell (Amy), Cumming, GA, Steven Mitchell Nowlan, Lawrence, KS, and Rebecca Ann Nowlan, Gladstone, MO, great grandson Thomas Scott Powell, Hays, KS, and her sister Carolyn Hurd, Tulsa, OK.

Visitation will be held at First Christian Church, Leavenworth, Kansas, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Monday February 22, 2021. Burial will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leavenworth First Christian Church foundation
