Herbert Thomas Schwinn, Sr., 89, closed his eyes on earth, and opened them in heaven to see his Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with his wife Genevieve on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Herbert was born on January 28. 1932 to John Thomas and Ruth Esther (Whitman) Schwinn.
On February 6, 1955 Herbert married Genevieve Mae Ryan at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2021. Together they began dairy farming in Leavenworth County in 1955.
Herbert served 23 years as a director with the Leavenworth-Jefferson Rural Electric Co-operative. He also served on the board of directors with All-Star Dairy and Mid-American Dairy for more than 10 years.
He is survived by his four children, Jeanine Murphy, Tom (Susie) Schwinn, Susan Todd, and Kathleen (Tom) Adams and seven grandchildren, Sam (Beckie) Murphy, Ryan (Kate) Todd, Caleb Todd, Molly (Ethan) Behne, Jake (Sarah) Schwinn, Aaron (Baillie) Adams and John Schwinn. He also leaves 11 great grandchildren, Emma, Samuel, Joshua and Anna Murphy, Elizabeth, Olivia and Hazel Todd, Nora Behne, Mila and Genevieve (Jenna) Schwinn and James Adams. He also leaves a sister Mary Barbara Allen, Gardner, KS, and two sister-in-law's, Evelyn Schwinn, Easton and Jody Schwinn, St. George, KS.
In addition to his wife, Genevieve, Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Floy Alida Davis and three brothers, Eugene Schwinn, Willoughby Schwinn and Myron Schwinn.
Herbert lived his confirmation verse "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid" Ps. 27:1. His faith and devotion to his family are an inheritance beyond worth.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10th and Thornton, on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, KS, where he was a member. Burial will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
