HOWARD E. BALDWIN
Howard Eugene Baldwin passed away at home in Kansas City, Kansas on February 3, 2024. Howard was born May 3, 1950 at St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas to Leo and Margie (Griffin) Baldwin. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1968. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1970, trained as a medic, and was assigned to Fort Richardson Alaska where he served until his discharge in 1972. Howard studied in Costa Rica during the 1981-1982 academic year as part of the University of Kansas Study Abroad program and the International Student Exchange Program. Howard received his degree from KU in 1982. He later taught English as a Second Language in Costa Rica and Mexico City. He retired from Johnson County Kansas Mental Health, where he was a juvenile case manager for many years.
Howard was passionate about KU sports, fishing, cribbage nights with his friends, and traveling abroad. He was a loyal son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is described by friends and family as always available to help anyone who asked. He had a dry sense of humor and a ready smile. He was a kind man who is, and will be, missed by all who knew him. Rock Chalk Jayhawks!
Howard is survived by his brothers Kenneth (Joyce) and Dennis (Carla), and his sister Suzanne Valandingham (Jim), six nieces and nephews, and many grand- and great-grand nieces/nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Leavenworth Heritage Center, 109 Delaware, on February 17 from 1-4 pm. Inurnment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery on February 20, 2024.
