Obituary

James "Jim" Coleman Byrd passed away on July 28, 2023 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

James was born on September 17, 1963 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Daniel James and Cora Belle Byrd. He attended school in the Leavenworth School District. He later attended Foley-Belsaw Institute for small engine service and repair, where he received his certificate in 1983. He then went back to Foley-Belsaw Institute for advanced small engine repair and received his certificate in 1989. He later went and received his KS Arborists Training Course from the KS Arborists Association in 2013 and 2014.

James married Sherry Jean Howe on March 18, 2006. He enjoyed the company of his family and close friends. He always loved going fishing. He took extreme pride in helping his family out whenever he was able to. He also enjoyed practicing and playing the banjo and violin with Sherry. She would play the guitar, while he played either the violin or banjo.

Jim is preceded in death by his soulmate, Sherry Byrd, father, Daniel Byrd, mother Cora Byrd, two brothers, Rodney and Robert Byrd, sister, Margaret Mathews and his niece, Tracy Mathis.

Jim leaves behind two daughters, Chrystal Pultz and Zai West. He also is survived by his five grandchildren, Brittany Pultz, Brandon Pultz, Jr., Michael Pultz, Morgan West, and Lilly Warren, three great-grandchildren, Da'Marius Horton, Kai Allen West and Cohan Pultz, two sisters, Debra (Richard) Watkins and Brenda (Mark) Somers, brother Ed Ruga, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jim's smile will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Davis Funeral Chapel from 1 to 3 P.M. with the funeral following at 3 P.M. Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 12335 Fairview Church Rd, Riley, Kansas at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
