James Dean Sloan, 78, also known as Jim or Poly, passed away on Sunday, August 25th, 2024 at St. Luke's North Hospital. He was born August 10, 1946, in Houston, Texas to Lyle and Betty (Thornburgh) Sloan.  Poly was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth County, graduating from Easton High School in 1964.

On May 10, 1968, he married Judy (Hund) Sloan, and they had three children. James is survived by his wife, Judy; their son, Jim (Amy) Sloan; their twin daughters, Kristy (Karl) Tsen; and Kelly Milner.  He had eight grandchildren, Alaine, Josephine, and Addison Sloan; Allison Hare; Grace, Brennan, and Owen Tsen, Andrew Milner; and one great-grandson, Parker Jones. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Kacy) Sloan; brother-in-law Lloyd Carpenter and many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Poly retired from Hallmark Cards after 32 years of service in 1999. He loved to drive and had several driving jobs after his retirement for companies, such as Renzenberger Transportation Services.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Josephine Hund; his sisters, Terri (Gary) Schuler,  Janice Carpenter and Joyce (Bob) Watkins.

Poly developed a love for sports at a young age and became a star athlete at Easton High School. He continued to play various sports into his adult life. Poly and Judy both enjoyed traveling and took many trips after retirement, including seeing most of the United States. Some of his favorite hobbies were car racing, attending car shows and watching sports, especially KU basketball and football games.

Poly was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his family, especially caring for his grandchildren when they were young.  Poly loved supporting his children and grandchildren with their many activities and sporting events.

Visitation will be Thursday, 5-7p.m., August 29, at the Davis Funeral Chapel.  A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, at Easton United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, located behind St. Joseph of the Valley Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Easton United Methodist Church.
