Jan Leslie Mitchell, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri after a valiant battle with kidney cancer.
Jan was born on November 16, 1952 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to her parents, Clifford Warren Mitchell and Alice Jean Stallard, both of whom preceded her in death. In her youth, Jan was a cheerleader, a surfer girl, and a lifelong Beatles fan. After high school, Jan attended Ricks College in Idaho, and later completed her Bachelor's degree in psychology at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina in the year 2000. Jan was an involved and loving mother to her three children. She volunteered in their classrooms, led their Scout troops and summer day camps, and loved to have fresh-baked cookies ready for them after school. In 2018, Jan relocated from Greensboro to Kansas to live closer to her kids. We are all so thankful for these past several years together!
Jan is survived by her sons, Ande Johnson and Paul Johnson, her daughter, DeAnn Johnson (David Kutos), and her grandson, Wilder York, all of Leavenworth, Kansas. She is also survived by her two siblings Melissa Stracener (Doyce) of Blue Springs, Missouri and L. Jay Mitchell of
Mesa, Arizona, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jan's children will honor her memory in a private service with inurnment next to her mother at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas. All arrangements have been entrusted to Leavenworth's Davis Funeral Chapel.
