Obituary

Janice was born on October 10, 1946 to Earl and Esther (Steuernagel) Berg.

Her early years were filled with adventure, alongside her brother, Bob, walking thru creeks and trails, an early steward of nature.

Her Uncle Bill was a great influence in her life, as well as her elders that she always had great respect for.

She literally met the boy next door, and the stories vary on just how it happened, but in this tale, there were two teenage girls in swimsuits sunning in their yard.

Janice was married to William "Don' Langham on June 5th, 1965.

They spared no time, as people do these days, starting a family.

Deborah Kaye Langham was born in April the following year, and Cheryl Lynn two years later.

Mom was the firm hand when it came to discipline, but also the same parent we fought to hold hands with in the department store.

She had many interests, including creating exceptional Halloween costumes for parties, sewing her daughters' matching Christmas dresses, and repairing what was needed.

She was an avid mushroom hunter, and has not ever given up all her spots!

Always finding herself on the front page of the Leavenworth Times, she's been documented creating fabulous snow sculptures, including a half size igloo that Debbie and Cheryl crawled into for a full week to play in, before it became dangerous.

There were also documented Brownie and Girl Scout trips and of course, news stories featuring Mom holding giant morel mushrooms.

An avid outdoor gardener, she had little luck with houseplants!

She built a wedding cake business from scratch, and ran it from a remodeled room of the home in Lansing, where the girls were raised through our formative years.

Delivering the decorated layers and components in a Chevy Vega wagon, she skillfully put the components together on site.

We got to eat the leftover cake cutouts and icing. Life was good!

Mom had a bucket list, which she consolidated and conceded for other memorable things, such as a cruise to Alaska, with her best friend, Laura, and later a road trip to Idaho and Washington, through South Dakota during bike week, to see her good friend Sachi, and niece Leslie.

So many stories and adventures, she was forever fearless and confident in seeking the next.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, her son in law Mark Cox, and aunts, uncles and cousins who have paved her a path home.

Her extensive hobby of genealogy can list everyone, quite a way back.

She is survived by her sisters Pam (Myron) Olson, Sue (Rick) Long, and her daughters, Debbie (d. Mark) Cox , and Cheryl (Chris Christensen) Langham , as well as four grandchildren: Wayne Logan (Sydney), Ian Cox, Ben Kowalewski (Carissa), and Amy Cox. Janice has five great-grandchildren: Harper and Henry Logan, and Oliver, Levi and Lainey Kowalewski. There are many more who called her Grandma Janice.

Services for Janice Langham will be at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, KS on Friday, October 16. Visitation at 11, service at 1. She will rest next to Dad at the Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
