Jeanne Newburn (Newton), lovingly known to many as “Granny,” was a woman whose warmth, positivity, and unwavering support made her a steady light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Born on July 7, 1941, in New Mexico. Jeanne passed away peacefully in her home on July 18, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous five‑month battle with pancreatic cancer. Her resilience was extraordinary — she met every challenge with quiet strength, a hopeful heart, and a spirit that lifted those around her even in the hardest moments.

Jeanne was preceded in death by the love of her life, Billy “Pappy” Newburn; her parents Gale and Edna Newton; her brother Gale Newton Jr.; her grandchildren Jerimiah Lozcano and Kelly Lewis; JoAnn Lewis (wife of Richard Lewis); and her loyal pup Lucy, who brought her comfort and companionship for many years.

Jeanne adored her family deeply and found joy in every gathering, every laugh, and every shared moment. She had a gift for making people feel seen, supported, and understood. Jeanne was always an ear and willing to talk — whether someone needed advice, comfort, or simply a moment of her time, she offered it wholeheartedly. One of her greatest delights was her weekly dates with her great‑granddaughter Emma at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant, a cherished tradition filled with good food, warm conversation, and the simple happiness of being together. Jeanne also loved cheering for Travis Kelce, supporting him with the same enthusiasm and loyalty she showed her family.

She is survived by her step‑daughter Sandra (Julio) Lazcano; her children Debra Davis, Barbara (Al) Simon, Nancy (Alan) Figgs, Richard Lewis, and Wayne (Leslie) Lewis; along with 13 grandchildren, 19 great‑grandchildren, and 1 great‑great grandchild. Each of them carries forward her kindness, her humor, her positivity, and the deep love she poured into their lives.

Jeanne’s life was defined by compassion, strength, and a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home. She was the person you could count on — steady, comforting, and endlessly supportive. Her memory will forever be a source of strength and love for her family, who take comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she cherished most.

Jeanne will be remembered for her bravery, her kindness, her uplifting spirit, and the immeasurable love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In honor of Jeanne’s memory, donations may be made to St. Croix Hospice, Atchison KS, whose care and compassion brought comfort to her and her family.
