Obituary

John Owen Barrett, Sr, 73, of Lansing, Kansas passed away September 9, 2021 at the Dwight David Eisenhower Veterans Administration Hospital.

He was born to Lorene Owen and James Dillard Barrett of Decatur, Alabama on March 2, 1948. He had two brothers, James Dillard Barrett who predeceased him and Wayne Thomas Barrett, both of Decatur, Alabama. John served in the United States Infantry during the Vietnam War era. When he returned home he managed or owned several sea food restaurants in his home state of Alabama. He also had sales jobs with the Kirby Vacuum Company and some life insurance companies. Johns main hobby was watching movies; westerns, musicals, classics, mysteries and comedies.

He married Elizabeth Kendall Lemley July 7, 2012 at the Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Memorial Chapel on Scott Avenue. She survives him at the home and his pets, both rescues.

He leaves  two house cats, both rescues from local shelters,  Sidney and Sandy. His survivors also include John (Rebecca) Owen Barrett, Jr., Tanya (Gregg) Perryman, Rachel Tannenbaum, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He belonged to the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Graveside service is to be held at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday October 6, 2021.
