Life started for John Lloyd Hawley on June 2, 1941 on a sunny day in McPherson, Kansas. The youngest of three brothers, John grew up learning that hard work, tied with charm and a heavy dose of common sense could get him far. All these traits he mastered early to pull off his greatest accomplishment. Marrying well. Everything else was way easier after that….

John & Jocelyn, married for over 59 years, have a family tree of three sons.  Blaine (Sandy), Brett (Kelly), Brent (Michelle).  Six grandsons, Nathan, Philip, Connor, Dylan, Coleton and Carson.  Granddaughter Tiffany (Mike) and their 4 children, Jude, Gus, Breyanna and Blayne.

John always said that he was blessed with a great family.  He took great pleasure in following and taking part in their lives. From their point of view, John was a role model and rock that kept each of them steady thru various life challenges which they had an uncanny way of falling into.

John loved his career, starting as a local 8 plumber and moving into estimating and project management, ultimately finishing his career in upper management spending over 40 years with the same company. Along the way he impacted the lives and careers of many people that he stayed friends with to the end.

John loved to work and decided it was a good idea to buy a run-down farm in Leavenworth County in 1971 to raise a family. Since that purchase, he put himself and family to work restoring the property. Along the way, they raised cattle, pigs, a few horses and dogs with the goal of a solid life and instilling work ethics in his children. His wife would get frustrated with all the different projects in various stages of completion. Some are still unfinished. The children are sure he loved to put scaffolding up somewhere around the house to be there months on end just to mess with her.  Regardless, she would still always cook great meals like fried chicken to reward the clan for a hard day's work.

To say John loved to talk would be an understatement. Everyone that came across John and struck up a conversation came away charmed and better for it.  Later in life, he spent many enjoyable hours visiting with childhood friends, old co-workers, family, and recent acquittances on the phone. John stayed sharp and true to his character right to his final days.

After the 3 ^rd son got out of high school, John was coerced by his wife to get a newfoundland puppy. Over the years they raised eleven of these awesome creatures, along with a few labs bringing untold joy and fellowship for all. Arguably, John's best buddies in life were 3 fuzzy fellows named Gus, Tug, and Jet.

After he retired in 2010 he spent his time improving and enjoying the farm, family, KU basketball, and dogs in Leavenworth, along with his wife's family farm in Woodson County Kansas that has been in Jocelyn's family for about 150 years.

Memorials may be given to the University of Kansas Endowment Program for the Cancer Center.

The family plans to hold a remembrance in the future when conditions are safe to gather with family and friends
