Obituary

John Robert Maduska passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024. Robert was born December 30, 1941 in Seattle, Washington.  The family then moved back to Leavenworth where Robert spent most of his life except for college and his military service in the United States Navy.

Robert graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1959 and was a graduate of Emporia State University.  He was a long time employee for OMRON and a top producer in electronic equipment sales. In his later years, he enjoyed discussing the stock market and the latest in transistors and semi-conductors.

Robert looked back fondly on his naval service which included a tour in Iceland and one year at sea on the USS Northampton during the Vietnam and Cold War period.  He would tell great stories about the huge storms that the ships endured.  Robert was an excellent swimmer.  During summer trips to the beach, he amazed his nieces by swimming for long distances and sharing his knowledge of the planets and the stars.  He loved to follow the history of modern cars especially ones like his '57 Chevy.  Robert could be found on the weekends on the track in Kansas City doing time trials with his '59 and '60 Chevys.  In his younger days, he could be seen around Leavenworth on his motorcycle or at Perry Lake skiing behind his boat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Luther Maduska and Delma Fern Power Maduska and his younger brother, Byron Maduska. He is survived by his older brother, Albert Lowell Maduska (Mary) and his 3 nieces, Heidi Garrett, Margaret Haley (Alex) and Rebecca Power Fitschen (Trevor) and their six children.

Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 18th, 2024 from 8:30-9:30 am.  Graveside Service to follow at 10:00 am at Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors.  The family would like to thank all of Robert's caregivers at Homestead Assisted Living and appreciates the kindness expressed throughout the years of his residence.
