Obituary

On Monday the 12th day of December, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio the Lord blessed John Willie Stitt and Eula Mae Stitt with their first child and she was given the beautiful name Johnetta Stitt.

Johnetta grew up and attended public schools in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Jane Addams Vocational High School in 1969. She went on to attend Cuyahoga Community College.

Johnetta was baptized at the age of 8 at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. She participated in the Youth Choir, Sunday School and other church activities.

Johnetta married Hamp Ledbetter at a young age and later married Morris Stergis. From these unions she had 3 wonderful sons who adored their mother: John, Sirrom and Arrie.

Utilizing her diploma in Commercial Foods and Culinary Preparation Johnetta had various opportunities to share her recipes and creative cooking talents while working at Holiday Inn, Don Shula's American Kitchen and High Country Inn at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a true chef and when she could no longer work in the kitchen she would share her recipes and offer tips to help others create wonderful meals.

Over the years Johnetta enjoyed dancing, comedy clubs and shooting pool. She also enjoyed being at home, spending quality time with her family, checking out what's new on Facebook and YouTube, watching TV, good movies and listening to her favorite artists like Eric Benit, Phillis Hyman and Dimash.

On Saturday January 11, 2025, after a long medical fight, Johnetta passed. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eula Stitt and her sister Christine Stitt.

Johnetta leaves to cherish her memories and to carry on her legacy of love: Sons John Ledbetter (and his wonderful wife Aurea who loved and provided devoted and tender care for Johnetta for many years), Arrie Stergis, Leavenworth, Kansas and Sirrom Stergis, Euclid Heights, Ohio; Stepdaughter Velma Stephens-Decembly, Brecksville, Ohio; Stepson Howard (Tamika) Stergis, Cleveland, Ohio; siblings Curtis (Lana) Stitt, Columbus, Ohio, Loretta Stitt-Tigner, Dickerson, Texas, Daniel (Lisa) Stitt, Maple Heights, Ohio and Eric (Yolanda) Stitt, University Heights, Ohio; Grandchildren, Great- Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Aunts, an Uncle and a host of cousins and friends.
