Joseph Agustus Douthitt, 44, of Leavenworth, KS went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday November 5, 2016. He was born in Fort Knox, KY on July 21, 1972 to Thomas L. and Jacquelyn K. Douthitt.
Joseph was raised a military child traveling around the United States and Korea until settling in Leavenworth, KS where he graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School, Easton, KS in May 1990. He went on to attend and graduate from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS in May 1997 with a BA in Communications. His career specialty was in marketing and advertising.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Christina, of 24 years; his three sons Cameron, William, and Dawson; his mother, Jacquelyn Douthitt, brother Mike Douthitt (Lisa), and three sisters, Patti Douthitt (Kevin), Susan, Cowell (Tim), and Julie Strick (Frank), his father and mother in-law Richard and Carol Harman, and his loyal pets Cricket, Pepper, and Mac, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joseph is preceded in death by his father, LTC Thomas L. Douthitt, grandparents Gus and Lee Douthitt, Naomi and Frank Hattock, and Niece Michelle Douthitt.
As a Young man, Joseph was interested in sports which carried through to his college years in Pittsburg. There he met his beautiful wife, Christina. He was notorious for his sense of humor, and never ending artistic abilities and involvement with his family in sports, and any other activities that came along. He was always creating something out of practically nothing to the amazement and enjoyment of his family. His many skills including grilling with certain flair, coaching sports with his boys, presentations of his visions to lead others in a successful direction, artistic creations and irreplaceable love shared with this family. He was hard working and boundless energy and entertained everyone with his unique and endearing sense of humor.
Joe jumped into college life with both feet, literally and figuratively. He ran track and was a "walk-on" football champ with the 91' National Championship Team. He got his first break in the advertising business when he landed a job at light and Associates, a media buying firm in Kansas City. In the years that followed Joe worked for several prominent Kansas City marketing firms with national account. At each stem, Joe gained more experience and had more responsibility. He got his first taste of sports marketing at Bernstein-Rein when a national construction rental company turned to a NASCAR sponsorship as a way to market themselves in the southeastern U.S. Joe was bit by the bug in sports marketing which blended well with his love of sports at MAI sports, Joe managed the NASCAR relationship with Sprint. In addition to working with NASCAR, Joe managed sponsorships with PGA, the 2002 Olympic Games. The Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and even Broadway in New York.
In February 2012 Joe was nominated for Pittsburg State University's Dr. Kenneth K. Bateman Alumni Award in recognition of alumni who demonstrated significant professional growth and achievement.
Most recently Joe was vice President of Sales and marketing at Boelte-Hall, a commercial printing company in Overland Park.
He will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved him. May he rest peacefully in the arms of his Savior.
A visitation will be held at Westside Family Church - Leavenworth, 738 Eisenhower, and Leavenworth, KS on Wednesday November 9, 2016 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday November 10, 2016 at 10:00 am also, at Westside Family Church - Leavenworth. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mount Muncie Cemetery, 1500 N. 8th Street, Lansing KS. Arrangement have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joseph A. Douthitt memorial fund entrusted to Davis funeral Chapel, Mid-America Bully Bread Rescue (mabbr.org) or to a charity of your choice.
