Joyce Anne Cannon, 69, of Lansing, KS, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday , January 29 , 2023 .

Joyce was born on November 17, 1953 , in Brooklyn , New York , the daughter of Hugh and Marion (Balfe) Cannon . She was married in 1971 to John Menzel Sr. and raised three boys , John Menzel Jr. of Lansing , KS , Donald Menzel of Winter Springs , FL , and Richard Menzel of Leavenworth , KS .

She was retired from the Lansing Correctional Facility , where she was employed as a Corrections Officer for over 30 years . At the time of her passing, she was employed by the Sisters of Charity , Mother House as a switchboard operator ; a position she enjoyed very much . Joyce was a proud mother and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren . Survivors include her sons , John (Melissa) Menzel , Donald (Courtney) Menzel , and Richard Menzel . Grandchildren Brett , Austin , Donald Jr. , Brooklyn , Matthew , Maria , Vahlin , William , Lexi , and Adam . Great grandchildren Amelia , Vince , and Camila . A sister Donna Cannon , her brother Robert (Misty ) Cannon , nieces Jacqueline (Ron) Baker and Katie Ellingboe . Nephews Kevin Hutter , David Cannon , Jeremy Montague , Steven Cannon , and James Cannon .

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joyce was at her happiest when spending time with her grandchildren . She also had a great passion for all animals and hummingbirds .

In lieu of flowers , the family requests donations be made to the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) .

A celebration of life will be Saturday , February 4 , 2023 , from 2-4pm at the Davis Funeral Chapel , Leavenworth , Kansas .
