Judith "Judi"
Rose Wurtele
Jul 18, 1945 — Feb 7, 2022
Leavenworth
Judith Rose Knight-Wurtele, 76, passed away Monday February 7, 2022, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Lansing, KS. She was born July 18, 1945, in Maryville, MO to Donald and Leona Knight.
Best known to her friends and family as Judi, she married Ronald Wurtele in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 18, 1967, who survives at the home. They were married for just over 50 years. To this union was born one daughter Shannon Ann (Lutgen), who was the love of her life.
Judi and Ron spent twenty years in the US Army stationed at various Army Posts in the United States and in Germany. She absolutely loved packing up every couple of years and moving to a new location. She was a perfect hostess at various military gatherings in her home and was a fantastic cook. She really missed this when they retired from the Army.
For over fifteen years, Judi operated Judi's Qwik Delivery Service, operating out of Price Chopper in Leavenworth. She delivered groceries, flowers and catered items. Most of her customers were elderly and loved it when she could sit and visit with them after putting their groceries away for them.
Another love of her life, starting in 2008, was being a part of the Patriot Guard, having done her first funeral mission for a US Army Captain who was killed in Iraq. She participated in dozens and dozens of funerals for military veterans up until the time Alzheimer's made it impossible for her to do so any longer. She was also a Rider Supporter with the VFW Post 56 Riders and supported many of their activities.
She was a devoted Mother and "Nana" who loved her family so much. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Shannon and husband David Lutgen, three grandchildren who she dearly loved, Jacob Lutgen, Nicholas Lutgen and Jessica Lutgen.
She is also survived by her sister Marilyn Long of Lincoln, NE; sister Margaret "Peggy" Barcus and husband Mike of Mission Viejo, CA; and brother, Donald "Jerry" Knight of Lincoln, NE. .'
She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Leona Knight; one sister, Patty Greb and later Patty's husband John; and her brother-in-law John Long.
Visitation will take place from 12 to 1 P.M. at Davis Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 18, 2022 with a Celebration of Life to begin at 1 P.M. with Chaplain Sam Sanford officiating. Inurnment will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS and she will be taken to the cemetery on her husband's motorcycle.........it will be her last ride.
