OBITUARY – Judy Ann Hansen Sarantakes

Judy Ann Sarantakes, of Lansing, KS, passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2024.

Judy Ann is survived by her husband, John E. Sarantakes; son, Evan John (Kimberly) Sarantakes and grandsons Matthew and Zachary; brother, Rick (Colleen) Hansen, sister Linda Hansen Schoenhals, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elda and John Hansen.

Judy Ann was born on April 8, 1945, at Bolling Army Airfield, Washington D.C., the daughter of Colonel John Christian Hansen and Elda Ruth Gallup. Judy Ann grew up as an "Army brat" and lived in Europe, Japan, and numerous locations in the US.

She married John Evanggelos Sarantakes at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1965 and began another world tour as an Army wife, living in multiple spots across the globe, most notably Germany, Greece, and Korea.

After John retired from the Army, they lived in various spots in California, Texas, and Kansas. Overall, Judy logged nineteen different residencies in five countries, resulting in fluency in French, Greek, and German. She relished her travels, particularly visits to Hong Kong and numerous European countries. She was an avid reader, bridge player, and supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She adored her animal companions, once cohabiting with five cats, and supported several animal rescue organizations. She cherished time spent with her son and his family, vacationing often with them on trips to Austin, Texas, and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She doted on her grandsons. Nothing was more important to her than her faith and love for her family.
