Kenneth Wayne Chinn, age 82, of Lansing, KS, passed away peacefully at Garden Terrace of Overland Park with family surrounding him.
Kenneth was born April 9, 1939 in Bartlesville, OK. Kenneth's family grew up in Bain city (a small Suburb of Leavenworth) where he also met the love of his life Eleanor Bronson at the age of 16 and married shortly after. He and Eleanor (whom he affectionately called El) raised a family of five and would've been married 65 years this December. He proudly served in the Navy and when he got out of the Navy he had several odd jobs until he finally landed a job as counselor ll At the Lansing correctional facility where he retired from in 2001. After his retirement he drove a School bus for special needs children. He was a driver and Eleanor was the monitor for Easton bus service.
Kenneth was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lansing Kansas for 45 years. He loved the Lord and was A faithful servant. He picked up children for Sunday school. He enjoyed being the music/choir director for years. His musical instrument of choice was the guitar which he would get out and play at home. He loved any sport there was and he was very good at any sport he played.
He was the youngest of 18 siblings and is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Eleanor Louise Chinn of Shawnee, KS; (daughter) June Walker of Leavenworth, KS; (son) Kenneth Wayne Chinn Jr. of Lansing, KS; (daughter) Deborah Lee Benson of Shawnee, KS; (son) Douglas Eugene Chinn of Palm Desert ,California; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; one living sibling, (sister) Mae Tolin, age 93, of Overland Park, KS; and is preceded in death by his daughter, Laurel Jean Price.
Funeral services will be held next Wednesday, August 25th, at The Davis Funeral Home, 531 Shawnee St, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
Visitation begins at 11:00 A.M. and the funeral service will be held from 12:00 to 1:00. Internment will follow at the VA Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 with full military honors.
