Obituary

Kristin Renee Irwin passed away Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Kristin Renee Huenink was born in Sioux Center, Iowa on March 28, 1973 to Richard and Gretta Huenink. She graduated high school with honors in Crete, NE, in 1991, and attended DeVry University on a scholarship, completing her Business Operations and Computer Information Studies Bachelors of Science degree in 1994 graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her career at HNTB for spanned for 14 years she excelled as Sr Program Analyst and was promoted to Manager, Application Development and Collaboration.  More recently she worked as a Senior .NET Development Technical Lead at SAIC.   Kristin was married to Lieutenant Colonel Joseph T Irwin Jr on May 20, 2006, at Fort Leavenworth.

Kristin's greatest joys in life were her family and her whippets; Cabo and Wabo.  She enjoyed hiking near El Paso, with her husband and kids, and ran half marathons and other long-distance races.  She loved travel especially adventures to Cancun Mexico where she swam in the cenotes and climbed the Myan Pyramids of Chichen Itza and Coba, Quintana Roo.  She was a very strong and determined person who was not afraid to take on challenges or learn new skills, which allowed her to accomplish a variety of goals, ranging from buying, planning, and overseeing the construction of a home, to major home improvements, to making candles, and gifts for friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Jay, daughter Skylar (Alex) Chandler and his son Aiden of Platte City, MO, son Justin Moore of Kansas City, stepdaughter Alexandra Irwin of Lansing, KS, stepson Joseph Irwin III of Lansing, KS; sisters, Carol Van Gorp of Orange City, IA, Lisa (Troy) Henggeler of Lake Ozark , MO, brother Ken Huenink of Alton, IA, mother, Gretta Huenink and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, Richard Huenink, and brother-in-law Ken Van Gorp.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Davis Funeral Chapel from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. Celebration of Life will follow at 3 P.M.
