Obituary

Lucretia was born April 26, 1934 to Albert and Mary Hidren Smith.  Lucretia fell asleep awaiting her Saviour, Jesus Christ's return on February 13, 2023.

Lucretia grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas, attended and graduated from Lincoln Elementary School in 1948, and was awarded her high school diploma in 1979.  She married Major Reed, Jr. in 1958 and raised six children, Theodore, Janette, Donald, Jeffrey, Thomas and Clinton.  She and Major divorced in 1980.

Lucretia was baptized and was a long-time member of the Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she worked as a community service volunteer, deaconess, usher, and church mother.  Lucretia really enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, working jigsaw puzzles, and especially Bible Study.  She has notebooks full of hand-written study materials because she was really interested in learning God's word and hiding it in her heart.  She also really loved gospel music.  She has boxes of both cassette tapes and  CD's that she listened to all the time.

Lucretia was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Edmond Smith, Freda Smith, Cathlyn Bledsoe, Alfred Smith, Dorothy Helms, and Marion Richardson, her children, Theodore Reed, Jeffrey Reed, and Clinton Reed, and one grandson, Winston Downing.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Janette Kearse and husband Duane, Donald Reed, and Thomas Reed and wife Helen, two sisters, Juanita Green and Eloise Brown and husband Leroy, one brother Frederick Smith, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2023, 10 AM to 11:00 A.M. with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 A.M at Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, 601 Michigan, Leavenworth, Kansas.  A Graveside Service will be held at Mount Muncie Cemetery.
