Margaret Lou  Berry, born on Nov. 11, 1939 in Edgerton, MO, passed away in Leavenworth, KS, on Oct. 27, 2024.  She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Williams, Warsaw, MO, her 2 sons, Glen Berry ( Rhonda) of Leavenworth, KS, and Michael Berry (Tammy) of Dearborn, MO.  Also surviving are her 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren,  her sister, Helen McDonald,  numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Duncan and Nadine Jones, her brothers, Brian, Robert, Ronnie,  all from Weston, Mo, and  her sister, Mary Jones from Lansing.
She grew up in Dearborn, then moved to Weston for high school, and graduated from West Platte High after playing girl's basketball, singing in the school choir, and serving as cheerleader.  She completed her secretarial studies at Draughon's College of Commerce and moved to Denver, CO, where she fell in love with the mountains.  She returned to Lansing, where family ties were close while her children were young and her former husband was serving overseas for the Army.
Margaret was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Leavenworth, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the church choir.  Her love of music developed as a child while attending church with her grandmother, who played the church organ.
Family was very important to her, being raised in a very large tobacco farming family and she organized many family reunions and hosted holiday meals at her Lansing home for her extended family.  She told many stories of growing up with aunts, uncles, and cousins, all living on neighboring farms.  Many games of Pitch and horseshoes were played, and much laughter was heard. She always corresponded with distant relatives by letter and phone.  She adored researching her Scottish and Irish ancestry and passed on that information to her children.
She retired after 34 years of civil service for the US government.  She worked as a transcription secretary at Munson Army Hospital at Ft. Leavenworth, both the VA in Leavenworth and Kansas City, Mo, and prior to her retirement, had been office secretary for the Inspector General's Office at Ft. Leavenworth.  She worked at Cushing Memorial Hospital, Leavenworth,  KS, and the  Physicians Clinic, Lansing, KS, as a part-time  medical transcriptionist for several years after her civil service retirement.  She pursued a nursing degree at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  Although she did not complete her studies, she made the Dean's List and was quite proud of her learning.  She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren during their youth, and there was never a lack of anything to do at Grandma's.

A public visitation is planned at Sacred Heart Church in Leavenworth at 10am on Tues, 11/5/2024, followed by mass at 11am,  and burial at Dearborn Community Cemetary in Dearborn, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Leavenworth County Humane Society.
