Margaret Swindell Butler (known to all as "Maggie") passed away on 23 December 2024 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was 78 years old.
Maggie was born on 3 February 1946 to Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Swindell in Washington, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Atlantic Christian College and her Master's Degree from Georgia State University. She taught school in North Carolina and Georgia. She met her future husband (Captain Dan Butler) in 1971 and they married on 16 February 1974 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. She accompanied her husband on tours overseas and across the United States until they retired from military service at Ft. Leavenworth in 1993. They had two children, Steven and Rebecca.
After retirement from military life, she and her family resided in Leavenworth, Kansas. Active as family manager, wife, and mother, she also maintained active interests in gardening, cooking, and history, and Thursdays would find her at First City Museum volunteering along with her friends.
Preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her spouse, Col. (Ret) Dan Butler (Leavenworth, KS); son, Steven Butler (Urbana, IL); daughter, Rebecca Butler (Chicago, IL); sister, Emy Hinnant (Chapel Hill, NC); brother, Lewis Swindell (Blount's Bay, NC); and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 4 to 6 P.M. Internment will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 2:30 P.M.  Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
