Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Jane Young passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on August 29, 2026, at Homestead Assisted in Leavenworth, KS. Peggy was born November 19, 1929, in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of Charles McQuillan and Bertha (Schmidt) McQuillan. She grew up and lived in Lansing for the first 94 years of her life. Peggy graduated from Lansing High School in 1947. A year later she married Neil Young, her husband for 66 years. Peggy dedicated her life to raising her four children and running the household while Neil was hard at work providing for the family. She liked to sew, making clothes and school costumes for the kids. Cooking, baking, and canning took up much of her time. After the kids were old enough, Peggy took on part-time jobs; one at Montgomery Wards and the other as a cafeteria helper at Lansing High School. When raising her children slowed down, she stayed busy with home projects. She enjoyed her social events with the Community Club luncheons and Bunco Club. Always supporting her children, she attended school sporting events and other activities. Peggy and Neil were avid baseball and softball fans and traveled many years watching their grandchildren play. She was a devoted Catholic and attended St. Francis de Sales Church faithfully until she was unable to leave the house. Her faith never wavered. Peggy is survived by her children Dale Young (Karel), Karen Lilleston (Jim), and Mark Young, brother Charles J. McQuillan (Gloria), six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Neil, daughter Jean Young, grandson Calen Young, and brother Donald McQuillan. Visitation (10:00am) and Mass (11:00am) will be at St. Francis de Sales Church, 900 Ida St., Lansing, KS, on September 18, 2026, inurnment at Mt. Calvary to follow the mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church or Catholic Community Health Hospice. Condolences may be made at www.davisfuneralchapelinc.com.
