Margie Irene
Baldwin
Jan 26, 1927 — Jan 24, 2022
Leavenworth
"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies." Proverbs 31:10
Indeed, she was a true gem for her husband Leo, her children, her family, and her many friends. She passed peacefully on a warm, sunny morning, January 24, while holding the hand of one of her children. Margie, as she was universally known, was born January 26, 1927 and died just two days short of her 95 th birthday. Born in Amiot, Kansas, the third of eight children of Howard Leslie Griffin and Gertrude Marie Akers, she and the family moved to Fordland, Missouri to farm. Margie graduated from Fordland High School and during World War II, she worked at the Sunflower Army Munitions Plant in DeSoto, Kansas. She met Leo here in Leavenworth and was married to him for 61 years until his death in 2008. She was a housewife, but oh, what a special housewife. She and Pop had three sons in four years (Kenneth 1947, Dennis 1948, Howard 1950). When she discovered that we were too young to send to reform school, she was doomed to raise us herself. The ordeal was sweetened with the birth of our sister, Suzanne, in 1958.
During her life she was passionate about gardening, cross stitching, crossword puzzles, crocheting, sewing, collecting cookbooks (and loved trying out new recipes), and was an absolute master of growing indoor plants. She was a proud grandmother of six grandchildren, great grandmother of 18, and a great, great grandmother of one. She was an aunt to 55 nieces and nephews and knew everyone's birthdate. A loving person who never had an unkind word. She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Leavenworth Council Area Agency on Aging.
Services will be held at the Davis Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 29. Visitation at 12:00, service at 1:00, reception immediately following at Ten Penny restaurant.
