Marge Mairs, 92, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, February 15, 2024. She passed peacefully in her home in Leavenworth, KS with her devoted husband by her side.

So- it is with heavy and broken hearts, yet thankful and joy-filled spirits, that we share the death of this beloved Wife, Mother, Grammer, and Gigi: Marjorie Carolyn Hite Mairs.

Marge was born on December 19, 1931 in Iola, KS to Cecil Clifford & Essie Marie Hite;  rounding out their family to four with an older brother
Richard, three years her senior.

Marge, a Delta Gamma, attended Washburn University where she met the love of her life. She married Lloyd Edward Mairs on June 7, 1953 in her parent's home in Hiawatha, KS.

Marge became a believer through the gentle drawing of our Lord through her husband's bold witness. Through their legacy,  we have the joy and comfort of knowing that Marge is safely home.

"Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for we walk by faith, not by sight— we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord."
2 Corinthians 5:6-8

Marge had a true servants heart and she demonstrated it to her husband, her family, her friends and all who crossed her path.

She was known for her hospitality. People loved being invited into her home because she was so welcoming. She was a prayer warrior, she prayed constantly for all those she loved. She never forgot to acknowledge a birthday. Even on her final day, she made sure a birthday message was sent, coffee was served, and caregivers were thanked.

Her five daughters had the blessing and privilege of caring for her after a major set back in June of 2023. We were grateful to enjoy an additional 8 months of care, fellowship and reminiscing with this precious woman.
While her decline was mostly physical including emphysema, heart failure, failing eyesight, fragile bones, and limited mobility; she remained sharp as a tack right up until just before her passing. She and dad perfectly complimented one another even as they aged. With dad's memory struggles, Mom became the brain and dad became the brawn, so to speak.

While we firmly believe that mom's death was sovereignly appointed-

"Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them." Psalms 139: 16

-we recognize that the hospice providers at Vitas, and specifically Julie, her nurse, provided loving, friendly support and kindhearted care, (not only to mom but to Lloyd and all the sisters as well).

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Marge is survived by:
Her devoted husband for 70 years, 8 months and 8 days, Lloyd Edward Mairs.

Roxanne (Chris) Hawrylewicz of Naperville, IL, Cynthia (Steve) Polli of Leavenworth KS, Rebecca (Doug) Staat of Crystal Lake, IL, Pamella (Mike) Blumhorst of Decatur IL and
Patricia (Rory) Moxon of Oshkosh, Wi.

Her grandchildren:
Carrie (Jim) Fults of Naperville, IL, Michelle (Adam) Rath of Crystal Lake, IL, Mandy (Tony) Perez of Wheaton, IL, Nyla (Chris) Hill of Titusville, FL, Michael (Laura) Staat of Crystal Lake, IL, Monica (Jeff) Landreth of Redondo Beach, CA, Ashley ( Martin) Eichmann of Wheaton, IL, Heidi Staat of Crystal Lake, IL, Lauren (Taylor) Beasley of Maitland, FL, Maria (Chad) Yeakley of Cornelia, GA, Damaris (Dan) Kese of Oshkosh, WI, Dakota Moxon of Oshkosh, WI, Michaela (Ben) Campbell of Oshkosh, WI,  and Noah Moxon of Oshkosh, WI.

Her great grand children:
M.J. , Ethan, Jerilyn, Parker, Macy, Nora, Mckenna, Jackson, Hannah, Molly, Chase, Harlan, Tessa, Kylie, Brody, Colton, Emma, Lila, Liam, Ophelia, Avery, Kent, Scarlet, Farrah,
Cannon, Trip,  and Everett.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews and dear friends from her Bible study.

A private family celebration of her life will be determined at a later date.

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails
to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty
and strength.
I stand and watch her until,
at length,
she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

Gone where?

Gone from my sight.
That is all.
She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me
-- not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout,

"Here she comes!"

And that is dying...
