Martha Elizabeth Moppin, 94, Leavenworth, KS passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 in Lansing, KS. Martha was born on a small farm in Leavenworth, Ks on December 17, 1929 the daughter of Leo F. and Clara Paul Matzeder. The family later moved to a house on Muncie Rd and she started school. She attended Munie grade school 8 years in a two-room school house. She walked the muddy roads to school without missing a day. After graduation from Muncie School she went to Lansing High School. Walking or riding the K.C. bus, graduating from high school in 1947. She went to work for the Glove Factory for a short time and then at Ben's Budget Grocery Store until 1950. She married the love of her life Jacob Moppin on June 4, 1950 and they moved to Craford, Nebraska and Jake worked for the C B Q Railroad building bridges. They then moved to Keokuk, lowa where their only child Deborah was born. They moved back to Leavenworth where she was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and exercise classes. In 1961 Martha went to work for Leavenworth County and worked for County Treasurers office and the District Court, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed her family, crocheting and gardening and traveling highlighted by a trip to Germany. She was active going to exercise and activities at the Council on Aging and water exercise at St Mary's for many years and also doing Thai Chi. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, currently a member Southern Heights United Methodist Church. She was active in the Leavenworth Garden Club, Red Hats, and others. She volunteered at St. John Hospital, Lansing Museum, C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, and the Carol Mansion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jake in 2006, daughter Deborah in 1993. sisters Anna Marie Townsend and Ruth Harrison, brother Leo Matzeder, daughter Deborah Minoglio and grandson John Minoglio. She is survived by son-in-law, Victor (Teresa) Minoglio, grandsons Joe Minoglio and Jeff Minoglio, granddaughter, Bonnie Yantzi, great granddaughters Allysa Minoglio and Mina Jean- Jacque, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral service will be held at Southern Heights United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11 A.M. follow by burial in Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Southern Heights United Methodist Church or Council On Aging.
