Mom Reindl/JoAnn/GG has gone home to be with the Lord. She is at rest now.

Mom recently was transferred to the ER from her apartment at assisted living due to irregularities in her O2 stats and BP. Ultimately several conditions were discovered that would be untreatable due to her age and condition. Mom was a fighter and reached 85 years of age in spite of emphysema, heart valve replacement, near fatal head on collision (hospitalized for 6 months), and lately increasing dementia.

Her body, a gift from God, fought and maintained for her entire life and was simply showing the age, wear and tear of its grand journey.

A decision was made to place her in hospice care. It was immediately apparent that this was the correct course of action. Her body responded as if breathing fresh air; instead of fighting through all the complications it was able to rest. Her breathing improved and she was comfortable until God called her home at about midnight 11/6/2020.

Funeral will be arranged through Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kansas.

William Reindl

JoAnn (Mary) Reindl was an accomplished pilot, having worked as a Flight instructor, Charter pilot with the FAA.  She received multiple awards including flight instructor of the year in 1983.  Among other activities, took part in the Trans Continental Air Race held by the 99'ers which she was a member.  More importantly she was well loved and respected by the people she met.  People were always coming to me saying how wonderful a person she was.  No greater compliment could ever be given.

It was not just her skills as a pilot that people respected but she was truly a caring person.  Always wanting to help and often going out of her way to do so.  Still that is only part of it.  She was fun!  Ready to try new things and coming up with wild plans.  With Mom the unexpected was the norm.  Things didn't always work out, sort of like living in an episode of, "I Love Lucy", but they were fun.

She also loved horses, dogs arts and crafts and was a talented writer.  Always on the go, looking for new adventures continued on with her involvement with the Ret Hatters where her  creative talents, created wild costumes to wear going out with the girls.

With her passing, the world is a little bit less fun and heaven is getting a unique spirit.

She survived multiple airplane 'crashes', some of which were simply off-airport landings because of her skill.

She lived on past emphysema.

She had Heart valve replacement many years ago.

She had Debilitating head on car crash that should have killed her - and they only didn't amputate her leg because she pleaded with the doctor. Her eyeglasses are the only reason she wasn't blinded as the windshield fragments left scars all over her face.

In everyone's life there are a few teachers who stand out.  JoAnn Reindl was one of those people. She was my flight instructor for more than a dozen years, sharing her love of airplanes, flying, and adventure. She taught me to be brave and careful, to appreciate miracles and trust in science. I have not seen her in many years, but her voice ("Right rudder; more right rudder") is as clear in my mind as the day we met in 1983. This picture was taken the day I first flew solo. JoAnn died yesterday at the age of 85. Her memory will always be a blessing.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Your Mom gave me the gift of flight, sharing her love for airplanes and adventure over the many years she was my flight instructor and my friend.

We talked about so many things during those hours together in the cockpit, most notably about family, and her great love for Joe and all of you.

I know she is trying out her angel's wings now, telling all the others in Heaven:  "Right rudder, more right rudder."
