Leavenworth

Obituary

Mary Liston of Leavenworth died peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Mary graduated from Leavenworth High School 1967.
During her lifetime, Mary lived in many places throughout the country and in Germany, retiring with her husband Loren in Bellingham, WA,
before returning to Kansas. Mary was generous and funny and often demonstrated her quick wit. Her family often said she'd missed her calling as a stand-up comic. She loved animals and offered homes to many dogs and cats over the years. She also loved horses and had a collection of horse paintings and statues that she began as a child.

Mary's happy place was the beach; she often walked Long Beach on the Washington coast. Mary enjoyed music and was a fan of several musical genres. The Beatles were a favorite; she passed while listening to "Hey, Jude."

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Loren, her son James Slead, infant daughter Rebecca Anne Liston, twin brother Mike, and brother and sister-in-law Jim and Bonnie Vredenburg.

She is survived by a step-daughter Kristi (Randy) Ellis, daughter-in-law Carolyn Naegeli Silvernale-Slead, grandchildren Carissa (David) Hawker, Hailey Froeber, Tristin Froeber, Devin Slead and Jonathan Slead. She is also survived by sisters Carol Conner of Leavenworth, Katie (D.R.) Palmer of Centennial CO, sister-in-law Jacque Byrd of Louisburg KS, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces/nephews, and close friends.

Mary requested that no funeral service be held; private interment will be held at a later date in Menlo, Washington, where she will join Loren and Rebecca Anne.
