Mary Lou Woodson, 93, of Atchison, Kansas and formerly of Leavenworth, passed away on Sunday, December 12, at Atchison Senior Village.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Wednesday, December 15, at Davis Funeral Chapel.  The funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, December 16, at the funeral chapel.  Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Mary was born on March 2, 1928 in Council Grove, Kansas.  She was born on her sister Margaret's 7 ^th birthday.  Mary was the daughter of Ralph G. Wolff and Marie L. Wolff (DeHoff).  She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1946 and worked at the local creamery before moving with her parents in 1947 to Lansing.  It was here that she met Bob Woodson, a butcher in the grocery store, and they were married in 1948.

Early on Mary worked for Commercial Credit in KC and the Montgomery Ward Credit Office in Leavenworth.  In 1950, shortly after the birth of her first son, Dan, they moved to KC and she went back to work at Commercial Credit.  They soon returned to Lansing after purchasing the grocery store which turned into a lot of work with little return.  After selling the store Mary went to work at the First National Bank where she worked until they moved to Topeka in 1967.  In Topeka she sold Avon and worked part-time at Macy's.  When they returned to Leavenworth in 1974 Mary went back to work and to see her friends at the First National Bank.  She remained there, except for a brief stint in the Register of Deeds Office, until her retirement in 1982.

Mary was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, attended Curves for a number of years and was a member of the Nifty Thrifty Redhatters.  She loved playing cards, especially pitch with her family, and various games with her Thursday card group.  Mary enjoyed those milestone birthday parties, too, or any party for that matter.

She and Bob took many trips to Las Vegas and took the family to Branson and Colorado.  When Bob passed away in 2002 Mary didn't slow down, she sped up!  She went east to visit Diane where they went to NYC to see the Rockettes, Philly and the Amish countryside in Pennsylvania which she loved. She also went to Colorado to visit her sister and nieces. When someone said "let's go" Mary was ready and waiting.

Mary was the biggest KU fan ever.  We secretly called her "KU Mary".   If you called her during a KU game, well you might as well of just called back later.  She even met Bill Self in 2018 in Lawrence in a restaurant and discussed some strategy with him!

She was a master seamstress making barbie clothes and regular clothes for Diane when she was little and aprons, bag holders, mittens, hanging kitchen towels and wall hangings which so many of us enjoy today.  Her prize piece of work is the Wizard of Oz quilt proudly displayed in Diane's Oz room.

Mary liked to move a lot or maybe it was that she didn't like to clean so the family would just move!  She was sharp as a tack, loved to talk and was a great source of info on anyone and everything. She devoted her life to her family creating so many treasured memories with those she loved.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margaret Edmonds, and her husband, Bob, of 54 years.

She is survived by her children, Dan Woodson (Sue) of Leavenworth, Mike Woodson of Atchison and Diane Woodson (John Liebal) of Hockessin, DE; Granddaughter Charity Mouck of Terre Haute, IN and grandson Kurtis Woodson (Alex) of Lawrence; 2 great-grandchildren, Eden and Levi Mouck; brother and sister-in-law David and Fran Woodson of Temperance, MI; and lots of nieces and nephews spread around the country, along with a few remaining cousins and loads of friends whom she loved so dearly.

Mary was a 2-time cancer survivor, thus in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
