On June 11, 2021, Michael Warren Dunn, LTC (U.S. Army Ret) and formerly of Leavenworth, departed this Earth and headed for Heaven; which is a rare event for a former US Army tanker.

He was born February 16, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri to Herman Warren Dunn and Frances Lucille Jones Dunn. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife Patty; children Chris and Colleen (Michael Wright); brother Patrick (Patricia); grandchildren Michael (Jennifer), Elena (Keanu), Emily, Megan, and one great grandson; Connor.

Mike was born into a strong Catholic family and kept his deep faith throughout his life. He was the essence of a self-made man. He worked hard to pay for his tuition at Bishop Miege High School, Pittsburg State, and Webster University. Through tremendous grit he went on to become a commissioned officer in the US Army, served in combat in a scout plane as a spotter in Vietnam, helped produce the best main battle tank in the world as the Production Officer at the Lima Army Tank Plant-Ohio, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 25 years of service.

His loves were simple and timeless:  Hunting and Spoonbill fishing, a cold beer at The Lake of the Ozarks, the 14th Armored Cavalry, Kansas City Chiefs, taking his wife out to the best steakhouse in Kansas City.  And above all, his family. He once told us his favorite thing to do was take his grandkids on the boat and tool down from Ivy Bend mile marker 65 to get ice cream at Hiawatha Marina.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 27, 2021, 4:00 to 7:00 P.M at Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception, Leavenworth, Monday, June 28, 2021, at  10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Dad would like it if you tipped a cold one towards Heaven occasionally, when you are watching the Kansas City Chiefs.
